Hi,

How do you tell if you have a 3-Point hitch. As you can tell, I`m new to this tractor lark. I have an IH 484.

Eddie

Our 484 has a 3-point. To add to what the other post says, the lower links are the heavy iron bars with pivot balls in both ends of them that are on either side of the rear of the tractor, about the same height as the drawbar. These arms are free to swing back and forth and will have a chain attachment to the center of the tractor to limit how far out they can swing. There should be a linkage going up from both of these arms to two shorter arms that move up and down via the tractor's hydraulics, which will be operated by a lever just to the right of the seat, in front of the pto lever. The top link, whether or not it's there, will have a mounting bracket in the center roughly two feet above the drawbar where a round pin about 3/4" diameter and about 5" long goes through the heim on the adjustable upper link. If you look through the photo pages on this site there's probably a picture of a 3 point there.

3-point has two lower links, and a top link. Lower links each have a ball with a hole in it to fit the pins on the implement, as does the adjustable rod that attaches to the top link. If your tractor has only a drawbar, it does not have a 3-point. Mounted implements on older non-3 point tractors usually attached to the axles and/or rear housing. IH also had a 2 point quick attach system called fast hitch. I imagine your tractor has a 3 point, unless it was ordered without one for some reason.
