I found this picture while surfing one day. My father-in-law served in France for the RCAF, 2 Fighter Wing in the early 50"s. We cane across this photo while lokking around the web site. Anybody have any comments on this one?

Well, I haven't had french since 7th grade and that was longer ago than I want to admit. I can make part of it out. Is there somebody who can translate that?

Here 'ya go:

Bref historique du Farmall FCN :

a brief history of the Farmall FCN.

Produit à partir de 1952, le Farmall FCN correspond au modèle Super FC (dont le moteur est gourmand en essence) remotorisé par le moteur diesel DF124, fabriqué dans l'usine International de Neuss, en Allemagne.

Made in 1952, the Farmall FCN is equalivent to the Super FC (which is a gas motor), redesigned to run on deseil fuel DF124, made in the IH factor in Neuss, in Germany.

C'est un quatre cylindres d'une cylindrée de 2043 cm3 et d'une puissance de 24 cv à la poulie.
Ce ne fut pas un succès commercial du fait du manque d'endurance du moteur.

It has four cyclinders measuring 2043 cubic centimeters of volumne, and providing 24 (some measure...horsepower?) at the pulley. It was not a commercial success because the engine didn't hold up over the long term.

Données techniques :

Puissance à la poulie (moteur tournant à 1650 tours) 23,7 cv

Power at the pulley when at 1650 RPM: 23.7 hp?

Puissance à la barre 21,7 cv

Power at the drawbar: 21.7 hp

Course et pistons 101 x 80 mm

Stroke and bore in mm.

Cylindrée 2.043 cm3

Cylinder volume in cubic centimeters

Voie avant (réglable) 1,50 à 2,06 m

Front wheel-to-wheel distance, adjustable.

Voie arrière (réglable) 1,22 à 1,76 m
1,42 à 1,98 m

Rear wheel-to-wheel distance, adjustable.

Vitesses (4) 3,810 - 6,050 - 7,960 - 16,590 km/h

Speeds in km/h for each of the tranny speeds.

Marche arrière 4,77 km/h

Speed in reverse.

Empattement 2,31 m

Wheel base in meters.

Dégagement au dessus du sol sous essieu arrière 0,57 m

Dégagement minimum sous la barre 0,35 m

Minimum space under the drawbar (?)
Rayon de braquage 2,29 m (frein serré) - 2,42 m (frein libre)

Longueur totale 3,29 m

Largeur totale 2,23 m (max) - 1,98 m (mini)

Poids (à vide) 1.750 kg

Weight in kilograms.

Equipement régulier Pneus avant 4.00x15 ; pneus arrière 9x36 ; poulie et prise de force ; silencieux d'échappement ; poids pour roues ; éclairage électrique

Standard equipment: tires front, tires rear, pulley and pto (?), muffler, wheel weights, electric lights.

En supplément Avant-train à roue unique ; poids supplémentaires, etc ...

Options: single wheel front end (?), extra wheel weights.

Wow...what a great picture! I suppose I'm a bit partial -- I lived in France for a bit, and I sure enjoyed it.

Interesting tractor, though...it looks like a C to me, but I'm not aware that a diesel C was ever produced. I'll have to go read up on 'em in Guy's book tonight.

Thanks for sharing,

- David

I should add, the uniformed man is Bill Hay. The two other fellows are "local grass cutters" according to the article.
