I'm going to go pick up my IH 540 4x14" plow. It's in real good shape and the price was only $25.00. I will pull it with my 560 Diesel. How do I set the traction control and what are the common problems I could expect with this plow? How do I set it up? It has like new moldboards with good thickness. Colters have a lot of life left. I've always used pull types and never traction control. Any help would be appreciated.

Lance, you can get manuals from Case/IH on the 540,550,and 560. thats where i got mine, i think i paid around 8.00 bucks for it. it also shows the conversion to make it a land plow. thats my 2 cents!

You stole it! We bought a set of nice 540 4-14's for $550 at a sale here which actually was cheap for this area.

They work darn good IMO, about the only troubles we had with ours was bending the pipe for the steerable tail wheel when I turned too sharp coming out of a dead furrow. Ours also has a gage wheel on it and it is prone to plug their if it plugs at all.

I'd try to find a book..... ...They explain setting up your hitch pretty good.

Set it about two to three notches up but watch ya don't lift the front as they will come up real fast if you have to much . I ran a 540 for years the only thing i did not like them for was corn stalks as they would plug the only set of 540's that i had that did not plug was the one set that had M@W coulters on it. Now i have a set of 710's and just love them.
