I just purchased a 1947 M. Need to change out the manifold. What is a fair price for a manifold
new or used? I am concerned about twisting off the manifold bolts. What is the best way to remove the old manifold?

Have you tried turning the nuts yet? I have found that if you let the tractor run for 2 or 3 minutes, then go at it lots of times they come off nice and easy. Just changed out my first H manifold and this was the case. Was smooooth sailing. If they are stubborn....a soak with PB Blaster coupled with some light taps on the nuts very well might get you headed in the right direction...just my $.02.

Go to steelwheelranch.com. Get a new one for less than 150. Don't buy a used one, it might not be any better than the one you got;. I learned the hard way.

Heat (propane torch will work) on the nuts after wd40 on threads. Don't use too large a wrench - it's not too difficult to twist off even 7/16 studs
and it's not fun to replace them (recent experience talking). If they don't come easy, repeat wd40 and heat. As soon as they break loose, alternately tighten and loosen in little bits and you should have good luck.

I have had very little trouble with the manifold removal of an M. When I need to replace a manifold it is usually because the threads in the top where the extension pipe screws into has gone bad. Used manifolds are hard to come by and I think a new one is about $150 or so.
