Guys - - Is there a way to identify if an F-20 has a fast 4th gear by looking at the tractor? I'm not talking about the device beteen the clutch and transmission.

Thanx !

If the gear pattern closest to the driver (rear) is 1-4-2, it has the slow 4th. If this pattern is 1-3-2, it has the fast 4th. Acutally, the 3rd gear in the "Fast" transmission is the same as the 4th gear in the "Slow" transmission.

Fast fourth is in the upper right corner, slow fourth is in the bottom center between 1 & 2.

I can send photos of the shifter pattern. On early setups, they used a standard shifter and ground the numbers off and restamped the new pattern. The part even got a new part number stamped on. I can send photos of this type also.

Yes. The shift pattern is different on an F-20 for fourth gear depending on whether it was a "high" fourth road gear that came with rubber tires or a "low" fourth gear that came on steel. The way I remember it one is to the right and up and the other is to the right and down. I"m at work right now or I would go out and look at the F-20 that came on steel I have sitting under cover waiting to be restored and let you know what I have. Someone, like Nebraska Cowman will know for sure.
