As a youngster my family owned a Farmall A which had a vacuum lift. I am now looking at a Super A which appears to have a power lift of some kind other than the vacuum. Can anyone explain what if any power lift this tractor has? I believe it is a 1948 model in better than average apperance with no sheet metal rust and new rear tires. Haven"t heard it run yet. What would be a fair market value?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Not positive, but I dont think it would be a '48 model if it is indeed a Super A. The Supers weren't produced until '52 or '53(never can remember for sure...) Like the other posts said, if it really is a Super A it's probably got a touch control lift, which is hydraulic. There would be two levers to operate each side of it right beside the throttle lever.

Ron: Actually the Super A was introduced in late 1947. There were only a few produced in 47, less than 100.

Mustang: The Super A has a hydraulic lift called the "touch control". It"s located under the gas tank and uses a rockshaft to move two arms up and down. It can thus be used for lifting cultivators or a mower. Look in the "tractor photos" section at the left of this page--there are many Super A pictures, and you will be able to see the unit in some of them.

Are you talking about the touch control hydraulics? I'm pretty sure that the Super A only had the touch controls, (control levers next to the throttle), or it is something else?

There was an exhaust lift attachement available.

I'm not familiar with a "vacuum lift", though.

Go to the link below, and look at pages 143, 144, 145, 146, 147, and probably the next couple of pages beyond that.
