There is a 766 for sale with 3500 original hours, for the last 10 -15 years it just ran the liquid manure pump and silo blower, 3pt hitch is actually rusted in place. Cab is holy and cosmetically challenged but physically sound, TA works good. I'm looking for a cab tractor with heat and air. This has both but I'm not yet sure if they work. Whats everybodies experience with these old girls? I've been kinda waiting for an 886 to come along, how do they compare? Fuel economy, horse power, comfort, reliability, etc.?

766D and the first (white side) 886"s had the same 360 cu in motor at same rpm etc. The 886 had a LOT nicer cab. Otherwise, both excellent tractors. The later 886's had the 358 German Diesel- had more hp at less rpm & a little better fuel economy.

Gas or Diesel? We had a 766 gas. Just my opinion, and we may have gotten a lemon, but it was the worst piece of junk we ever owned. Alway broke down. Clutch, transmission, TA, rear end, you name it. The fuel economy was lousy. And we used to joke, that the horsepower rating had to be using shetland ponies, not real horses. If it were me, I"d keep looking for an X86.

Scrufy,

I had a 766 diesel at one time with the 360 engine; heck of a nice tractor. The only trouble was it was identical to my 966 and I was always comparing the two in horsepower for some darned reason.

Poor little 766 just could never measure up. Not it's fault,'twas mine. :>)

At 3500 hours, I'd buy 'er in a heartbeat.

Allan

well mine doesn't have a cab but it has 8000 hours and looks and runs great! the t/a, trans and rearend have been gone through but the motor is untouched. i love it and wouldn't trade it for anything. just buy it and still buy a 886 when you find one! do a search on tractor photos for a 766. mines in there along with some better looking ones!
