Polyethylene plow blades?

I'm getting ready to build a snow plow for my Farmall Super A and I was considering the merits of using UHMW polyethylene as the blade surface. I have called a local supplier and I can get a 10'x1.5'x3/8" piece for near double what a comparable rolled steel one would cost(I only need 6' but they can only do 10'), I can also get 1/4" thick poly for just over what the steel blade would cost. I intend to support it every foot. How difficult is it to get it to take a bend to fit the plow? I live in an area that tends to get a lot of wet sticky snow and I am wondering if using polyethylene is worth it? Also, would I be better off with 1/4" thick or 3/8". Thanks in advance, SAm in NS

We used them for a while when I was with the Kansas Highway Department. They are designed to plow right down to the paved surface of a road without damaging the road like a steel blade will. We found they wore out quickly under those conditions, but your useage wouldn't be as severe.
If you have a paved driveway one should work great, but rocks might tear the blade up and shorten it's life.

Sam, The polyethelene will bend easily, I would think that 3/8" will work well and the bottom edge will wear flat to your driveway. It is easy to drill, just clamp it to the plow and drill the holes from the plow side. It should hold up quite well.
