Can someone tell me if there is an easy way to tell what year my Farmall cub tracter is and is it a 6 volt system or 12 volt...I just got the thing and don`t know too much about tracters. I want to try and get it going.. it last ran about two years ago. It cranks by hand well

Rick

The proper cranking technique is to pull up only on the crank with your right hand, fingers only, which gives you a quarter turn pull. WHEN it kicks back, it will pull the crank out of your hand by straightening your fingers and you won't break your arm.

I've started a lot of tractors by crank and never been hurt. Occasionally I "windmill" one but that is always asking for trouble. If the tractor is hard to start, fix it or pull it to start, or crank it all the way around and let your friends sign the cast.

If it is unfamiliar to you and you are trying to start it by hand in the meantime, be VERY careful not to get your face or something in the way of that crank. You would do well to get yourself an owners manual and save yourself endless grief. They are quite reasonably priced.

Follow the link below. Read both pages and most of your questions will be answered.

6 vs. 12 volts depends on when the tractor was made.

If you can find the serial number plate, you can go to the serial numbers on the left of the forum page and trace it down. I don't have a Cub so I don't recall where the plate is located, but others will know.

The plate is located by the steering colum near the front wheels.
