We are in the process of emigrating to N.Z. and I was wondering what a wartime Farmall or W series I.H. would cost in N.Z. to see if it is viable to ship out my H with us next year or sell it in England before we go. Thanks.

Richard, An H in good condition would probably cost between $NZ2000 and $NZ3000 here, depending on tyre condition, whether it has all the electrical equipment, Lift-all, etc.
As you have a sentimental attachment to your tractor I would be inclined to bring it out with you if the freight is not too costly.
Where ever you eventually settle in the country you won't have far to go to find a local vintage machinery club, and IH equipment outsold all other makes up until the invasion of the Ferguson's, David Brown and Fordson Major's in the late 40's.
I've left my e-mail address open if you want to contact me. Sid.

Don"t know if this is helpful, but I have a cousin who lives in Guam. Operates a large vegtable farm. He buys all his tractors/equipment here in the US and ships it to Guam for less money than buying it over there.

Richard,
I am interested in why you are moving. Read where NZ was highly socialized and had large government deficits then elected a reform gov. in 1986 and they were able to reduce taxes and pay off their deficits. Did your decision have any thing to do with this? What is your occupation? Just curious as I would like to see NZ one of these days. Can't help with your tractor value, but I would assume that they would be rare there since the original demand when they were new was probably small.I would fill a container with old tractors and take them along. Sell the extras to pay the freight.

Hi Bruce,I am an agricultural engineer by occupation, commonly known as a tractor mechanic. Why emigrate? because agriculture (actually manufacturing industry in general) is being let go in this country,we need a government that will look after the interests of it people rather than thier own personal gains, not just the one we have got now, those in opposition dont seem to have any idea either.
Why N.Z.? We looked at the main english speaking countrys U.S.,Canada,Austrailia and N.Z. now the first 3 have somthing in common-that is their farming is on a much bigger scale, and so are the tractors,in N.Z. things seem to be similar to here so I would be able to get straight to work without any readjustment.
I am really not shure about thier tractor values, but this old Farmall means a lot to me,my grandad worked on I.H. tractors through the war you see,-so there is a bit of him in it,not to mention the poor guys on a liberty ship getting it across the North Atlantic in the last months of 1944 Thanks for your reply.

Richard,
Good luck on your move. Forgot to mention that I also have my grandads H. Also a war production model with a steel gear shift knob. I still use it to plant and cultivate corn. It was bought new in Seattle, Wa. There is or was a picture of it on Kelly C's website in the farmalls in action section.

Bruce

Met a fellow originally from Australia. He told me that people in Aus.work like heck to save money to go to England. Once they are in England they start saving money to go back to Aus. Aint that right,Richard.
