Hi Stu,

I pulled my checkbook out so fast it ripped my rearmost pocket!

Went back in there yesterday morning because I had forgotten to get my receipt. Told him that I did not want any "change of heart" on this deal. :>)

'Course, you have to understand that this tractor needs an engine too. That brings 'er up there bouncin' around the $6K mark.

Then, add in all the incidentals, the clean up and paint and I think I'm gonna see things come more into line on this "steal". :>)

Allan: I don't get as excited about 66 and 86 series tractors as some these guys, thus I can go along with the ugly sister senario. When it comes to looks 56, 06 and letter series take the prize in my books. When it comes to economy and durability 56 and 06 take the prize hands down.

That sure is big, you could do some serious snow pushing with it, maybe make it earn some keep by making a few bucks with it this winter.

Mornin',

We we get 'er stripped down to the point where we can find the tractor under all that other fella's equipment, she is going to end up on the business end of a silage chopper and a 4 bottom plow for her main purpose. Also, another one of the reasons I want a new engine in it.

No doubt about it, she has got to earn 'er keep.

Thanks for the shout,

Allan

Hi Mike,

It's gotta go. Here's a picture of the 'bad' side. Darned kids knocked out one window, the right door is a hangin off a hinge and the sound deading material is coming off the roof.

I'm kinda a stickler for factory and want to put 'er back the way it was when it rolled off the line.

Gave her a real hard going-over tonight; crankcase is full of 7 or 8 inches of baby sh!t, so it is going to have to have an in-frame and the plastic grille insert has to be replaced.

It is going to get a new seat and new jounce bumpers too. Everything else looks pretty darned good and should clean up nicely.

Hi John,

Get an eyefull of the rain cap. No evidence of one ever being on there either. But, if memeory serves me, the original mufflers were black, werent' they? Musta got changed out for some reason.

Oh, there's a lot of little fixin to do, but hopefuly nothing like that shipwreck of a 686 I that bought sight unseen other than the pictures (lesson in there somewhere).

That one never did give me a minute's rest. :>)

Allan, I belive you are right on the muffler being black. My last muffler from IH was bright aluminized steel, not black. I guess there is always black hi-temp paint! After you get the cab off you will need an 18 in. extension on the top of that muffler or all the exhaust gases will dump in your face!!!
Look forward to the progress as it goes along.
Question...How much cast are you going to hang on each rear wheel? Mine has after market, one piece cast wts. They weigh about 750 each.
Later,
John A.

Hi John,

Boy, I just don't think I need any more weight. The thing is loaded now and what's that? 1113lbs apiece?

Also, dunno 'bout the extension; if it will fit in this garage of mine at all, I'm gonna trim 'er clear down to the muffler. That's the way I had my other one and didn't notice the exhaust in my face at all with the rain cap facing forward.

Ya done right good Allen! Should make a respectable stable mate for your H. I'd not have the room to turn it around on my tree'd 4 acres here in the Northwet. Someday I hope to get back to the "Plains" to have some more room.
Sharp looking unit for sure and good luck with the in-frame ohaul.

No Sir,

Just the tractor. The loader is what started this whole ball rolling.

The previous owner found out that the engine was seized so he wanted to sell the loader back to the place where he got it (only has 50 hours on the loader).

In the process, this prompted a call to me 'cause I have had them looking for a "buildable" 966 for the past 6 months.

This is when they told me I could buy the tractor for salvage since they had since sold the loader to another guy.

Heck, now who could ever two-time an old H with a F-11 hangin' on 'er anyway? I have my pride, ya know. :>)
