Finally finished getting my ole 40 M back together Friday.Hooked up the bushhog to cut the feild down and it was doing great. Then all of a sudden she started buck and poping and acting a fool and finally died.Began checking things out and found ALOT of grass in the gas tank had stopped up the hole. Now,Im wondering how that much grass got in the tank.Anyways cleaned out as much as I could, filled it back up and finished the day.I was talking to my wife about it and my oldest son,who is 9 and should know better, told me he did it,at least he was honest!AH,the joys of fatherhood!

I had the same problem about 15 years ago.I was drilling wheat when my 806 started to loose power and died.No fuel was getting to the filters,I found dirt and sticks on the tank. Also found multiply little tennis shoe prints on the hood and fenders. After talking with my son he told me that him and friends that had spent to night. Were playing in the machine shed and were petending to fuel the tractor. After punishment and much flushing of the tank and fuel lines. The tractor was back going again, and still going strong. John

John:

You have obviously raised your son the right way, if I had done something like that when I was 9 i"d never have admitted it to my dad in a million years! If he"s that honest at 9, he will be very sucessful in life that"s for sure!
I bought a W4 back in the early summer which had been sitting in a shed for 10-20 yrs. Couldn"t get gas to the carb, so we went back to the sediment bowl, removed it (all fuel model- so 2 lines into it) & you would not have believed the amount of lead that I found clogging the inlet! Now it runs perfect, but it just amazed me how much lead was in there and how hard it was to get out!! :^)
