Bias tires generally have a taller profile than radial tires of the same size due to stiffer sidewalls. For taller overall height on pavement or hard ground get some R-2 (Rice & Cane) rear tires. Lugs are much taller than R-1 lugs on same size tire.

686: Are you looking for the highest profile in the size 16.9x38? I know there are differences even within a size. Someone was on discussions in past year on this subject. I don't have the answer. It will be in the archives, problem is finding without exact title. Try CNKS on this one as I think he was involved.

I don't remember that one. Only way I know to get a taller tire within a size is to up the ply number, unless you go to something like a rice tire.

CNKS: I missed on that one, if you don't remember it couldn't have been you. I remember the discussion, didn't get involved. Someone seemed to be saying you could get different profile on rear tractor tires. I don't know if this is so. What we need here is a tractor tire expert. Gotta be a few of them around.

I put a set of 16.9 Firestone 23° Radials on my 86 Hydro. Not cheap but I am real happy with them.
