Best plow for my 806?

I have an 806 diesel. I have about 135 tillable and most of my fields are hilly and around 20 acres in size. I have lots of irregular borders to plow around, etc.

What would be the best plow for me?

I was told that an IH 710 or 720 would be a good plow for my tractor. Most of the plows I've seen are 5 bottom, but these seem pretty big for my small fields.

Did IH make the 710 or 720 in 4 bottom (I'd certainly hate to cut down a plow--seems like sacriledge)?

Because of the hills, erosion, etc., plowing isn't something I plan to do often, just every few years as needed.

And with a rollover plow on hilly ground you can always push the dirt up hill. It will move down hill fast enough without using a plow to move it down hill.

Hi Delbert,

I think the guys that have never been around the spinners find them to be a bit 'weird' or 'strange', even though you and I find them to be totally commonplace.

Make 2 or 3 rounds on one and you'll never go back to an old fashioned one-way after you see what these things will do. :>)

Downside is not their weight as some might think (as they are no heaver than a cultivator, wide snow blower or even a heavy duty bush hog), but rather the price; they are admittedly more costly because one is buying twice the plow.

But, they are worth the price, IMHO.

Thanks for all of the great advice--that's what I love about YTMAG. Thanks everyone!

I haven't seen too many roll overs here in NE Iowa, but the 5-16's are common enough.

We plowed smaller fields than that with 6-16"s..... ..... ..I"d stick with a steerable semi-mount. Those mtd. roll overs are for western flat land. The ones I seen are heavy and I"d bet you"d bust something up on the plow or tractor in our ground with them.

I think a IH 710 or 720 5-16 would work very nice for you. We pull 4 with a 706D.

Michael: Given the situation you are describing, I would consider going the route Allan has suggested. Roll over plows are excellent for contour plowing, and even more so on the smaller fields.

Don't get me wrong, roll over plows work well anywhere. There is a guy down road from me has an 8x16 semi-mount roll over plow. He has fields a mile long. He can plow the whole field and never leave a wheel track on his plowing. Down with the double dead furrow.

Michael,

I just can't say enough good about these plows. Massey model 570 (I think). They cut a 4X18 swath and pull like an IH with 3 16" bottoms. Your 8 should handle one very nicely, I would think.

The nice part about 'em is that you can turn 'em around on a dime.
