Hmmm,

Flow rater only showing 1500 psi rear pump hydraulic pressure on my newly acquired 966 at idle.

That kinda smells a little. :>(

If you have the flow rator in the port on the plate the pump is bolted to you will check the whole system, if you have it out a remote you will check thr whole system. No way I ever knew of to check pump alone or the relief alone.

Where have you installed the flow rater? If between the pump and the rest of the system, I would suspect a bad pump. If pluged into the remote outlets, then the tractor's relief is still in the "system" and may be dumping your flow. A typical drop in pressure when going from hi idle to idle is around 150 psi or less (assuming a good system). If more, stuck relief, cracked valve casting or something similar.

HH,

With the flow rater plugged right into the left set of remotes.

Replaced the flow control valve and it didn't help, that's why I think it might be a wobbled out pump body, especially in light of the fact that this oil is very black and the system has obviously been neglected.

The thing has been setting for 5 years too, but it darned sure ought to pressure up to more than 1500 lbs I'd think.

Allen you may get it before you get it hot but I think you would need new pump to do that, but rated load rpm is the proper test rpm on all IH.

Allen that may not be all the bad they should be flow rated at rated load RPM. Having said that it should do better if flow is ok at idle.

Well,

The darned oil is really dirty (black in fact), probably has a plugged filter and was checked cold too.

But she sould pump a good 2250 psi hot and at idle, I'm thinkin'.

So, the darned pump is coming out to get a look-see. Better to do it now and not have any surprises later.
