Recently purchased this '36 F-20 with the mechanical manure loader on it..
Understand it is a factory built item. Any history on the manufacturer?
Being mechanically operated, do they operate well? Is it relatively safe
to use (verses a hyduralic model)? Anything I need to be made aware of
on these units?

Not sure if it will remain on the tractor after restoration. Are they
rare? Valuable? Do they have any value to anyone ? Looking for a
set of 36" rear rim/tires, or a set of 36" tires-only that could be traded
for. I live in SW Michigan. Thanx for your assistance.

Pete

If I got my hands on somthing like that. I would have to leave it on the tractor. That's one great looking loader. Course, the whitewalls really set er off. I go to a lot of show's, I think I've only seen one other like it. To me, tractors are a dime a dozen, it the equipment used with them that make tractors great.

Whether you use it or not is up to you but please do not just scrap it out.

well the pic came up this time for me, yikes is right! that thing looks like it weighs more than the tractor does, not to mention the foward visibility problem, i guess back then that was the only way they could do things, interesting attachment none the less, makes one glad for the hydraulic ones today. thanks ericlb

That one looks a little cobbled up, but mostly there. You have some extra chains there, and I don't know which ones are holding up broken parts and which ones are there for transport. They are not a safe implement to use, even on a good day. Too many pieces to break; caution and luck are needed.

My mom's Uncle Stanley had one of those many years ago. Basically it's a Rube Goldberg sort of thing; the belt pulley supplies power to a set of reduction chains which drive a winch. The winch pulls the arms and thus the bucket up using steel cable. A brake drum controls the descent, sort of.

We had a wagon lift that operated the same way, back before hydraulic wagons became popular. Once in a great while you could drop a wagon if the brake didn't catch, and you hoped the wagon was empty at the time. You had to make everyone stand clear of the whole thing when it was in use.

I had one on a regular and took it off. While it was off some scrapper snuck in and took a lot of it. It makes the front end very heavy. There is a lot of stuff wheeling about so safety isn't a really big selling point. All that being said I'd like to find another one somewhere in Iowa to restore and put back on my tractor. I think they are cool and I don't need to work one anyway.
