I need to order new a new piston and sleeve kit for my Farmall H. I know all the numbers from the head, block, pistons, you name it. Whenever I try to order parts I get a horror story about Farmall using all differant types of parts in their engines. I know it has the 3 7/16 bore in the block but should I mic it to see if it has a strange bore or just order based on the 3 7/16 bore. I know the engine has never been worked on before cuz it has been in my family since it was bought in 48.

Ok, either way, its all gonna cost about the same for the kits. Go with a Super H-300 sleeve and piston kit. it is the 3-9/16 bore kit. and the bigger displace ment over the original super H cubic inch. this sleeve kit will go into your H block, all it really is,,,, a bored out H sleeve and piston kit. will make you a good 39-42 HP with the small carb, old cyl head, and H cam. Now,, I do belive you have a 3-7/16 bore size!! Gentleman,, that was the IH overbore kit for the H, and standard equipment for the first Super H's!! your H at some point, has had a rebuild, and this kit installed. so really, you have 164 cubic inches, not 152. Now,, there is a kit for the Super H, that was the overbore that is 3-1/2, which was not listed in the IH books as a standard displacement option from the factory, you could order it, and have it installed. 3-1/2 was not the factory bore for the Super H, it was 3-7/16. All before 1953! the cubic in listings are C152, (3-3/8bore) C-164 (3-7/16 bore) C-169 (3-9/16bore) and the C-175 (3-5/8bore) Notice, one is missing,,, the 3.5 bore kit,,,, because, that was the overbore kit option. Hope this helps. if you need some specs, email me,, would be happy to give info on what you need. ChadS

Hi Brian, When you say you've measured the block
and it measures 3&7/16" is this with the sleeve removed? Measure the piston diameter on one of the cylinders that isn't damaged. If it measures
3-3/8" that's the size of your piston. Don't go by the block bore.

You also need to do what Jon has recommended on your rod and main bearings to make sure they aren't worn beyond specs or the crankshaft hasn't been machined undersize.

The 3 other pistons may need replacing too, since one has broken the sleeve.
Good Luck, Hal

If its never been worked on then I doubt it has 3 7/16 bore. You have to mesure the sleeves unless you are replacing them. And dont by rod or main bearings untill you take the others out and make sure there not over size and or have the crank turned. JON

Do I measure the inner or outer diameter for the sleeve size? The one sleeve that broke on me, I measured the hole in the block and it was 3 7/16. My Dad told me that it had larger pistons when it was bought but I never knew what he meant.

I beleve the block with out the sleeve would be 3 9/16 That give 1/16 on each side so the largest sleeve the H block will except is a 3 7/16 + 1/16 on each side gives you an 1/8 " larger hole. But the inside of a stock sleeve would be 3 and 3/8 Then they made an over bore of 3 and 7/16 But I dont know if they ever came stock at 3 and 7/16 most were switched to that when they were rebuilt. I may be wrong but someone will correct me if I am. JON
