How's the 7.3 been starting, and did you find the source of your diesel fuel leak into the crankcase?

Yes. New fuel pump diaphram bad. wasnt externaly leaking, it was internaly leaking into the crankcase. Got a new one. I chased an air leak out of the return line, and it does fire right up, with no stalling now when cold. On the adjustment,,, When it first starts up, fast idle kicks up, and it has a bit of diesil rattle, then it warms up, and seems to smooth out the sound considerably. I left the adjustent, so it does not retard the pump so much as it did before the I adjusted it. so, I left the adjuster screwed out,, Just touches the plunger, then 1 turn in to lessen the sound a bit,,, It seems to have come to life a bit more, Alot better torque with the trailer on it. Lot less smoke out the pipe when giving it throttle. It does seem a bit advanced upon cold start,, but it runs real good when it warms up, and the rattle sound lessens when it warms up. Is that due to the temperature switch you mentioned? ChadS

Pull the wire off the switch while it's in cold advance mode, and the differance in rattle will be obvious.

Does it hurt, to have alot too much advance at cold start? Getting colder,, so does that hurt the engine? Rattles at cold start, then smooths out like nite and day when its warm. Thats the electronic advance working when it does this right? So, it may need the adjustment turned in another 1/2 turn,,,, ChadS
