Despite all the unknown variables involved, I would appreciate some feedback on the approximate value of the following tractor. The tractor is a 40's vintage W4. The owner says it runs well. I have seen it and it appears to be in original condition w/ good tin and faded paint. Owner says it was kept inside over the years. Tires hold air but could be replaced due to wear. It comes with a hydraulic (up/down) front snow plow and also a V plow. Any feedback will be appreciated. Thank you.

Its a difficult question but you can narrow the window if:
1 Check compression 115 or better is acceptable. Below 100 is repair time. Are all cylinders even or is one dead.
2 Check oil pressure when hot. This will point to bearing wear.
3 Look in the fuel tank and sediment bowl for crud.
4 Good new tires will run you about $400 ea (rear)

If 1-3 are good its worth about 1500 + more for nice body good wiring belts in good shape and running nice.
If the engine need work it could be worth only 500.
Always be prepared to do some work on it to make it just the way you want. How much is up to you.
I like W4s I have a 1941 and have owned it for 30 years. Never failed me yet.

Strange it has hydrolics...it isn't a SW4 is it? I would guess about $600 more than a comparable Farmall H. Depends on what part of the country you are in too. If it is rowcrop country a little higher (for rarety) in standard country a little lower.
