Farmall 706 Carb. advice

I have a late model Farmall 706 with the 291 gas engine in it. The tractor was fine until I recently filled the tank up with fuel and then it started running rough especially at idle speed. I thought maybe I got some skunked gas so I completely drained the tank. I looked inside the tank and it was clean with no rust or debris. I took the carb off and took it to a local professional carb rebuilder and he went through it. He said it was a little dirty but not bad. I put the carb back on the tractor and put some premium gas in the tractor and it runs a little better but not perfect. I was curious if the electronic solenoid on the carb would be causing any of the problem or ? I am open to any advice.
Thanks

Like Ace said check your plugs and also your timing , And it would not hurt to do a major tuneup like set the valves check the dist for proper advance . The carbs on 06' are pertty much idiot proof all you can set is the ideal mixture unless some one did away with the shut off selinoide and replaced with a needel valve and in that case then you must fine tune or replace with the fuel shutoff. Becareful with the timming as 291's are real fussy on total advance and always run the 93 octain fuel. And Don't use Champions plugs.

You know, it might not be the carb. In fact, it probably isn't.

If it was a carb problem, you should also be getting smoke from excessive amounts of fuel being dumped into the engine.

Look at your ignition system, particularly the spark plugs. I bet at least one plug is fouled.

Kpowl The solenoid is for shutting the gas off to the engine when you stop the engine. Most of the time when they fail the tractor just will not start. To fail after you put gas in would be coincidence I would think. About the only way to test is a new one. I have taken them off and put the old adjusting screw like 560.

Can I follow along this thread? I've got a 706 that sat for 1 -3 years. I've drained the gas --- it was total varnish. Emptied and cleaned the sediment bowl. Removed, flushed and cleaned the fuel line. Removed the carb, had it soaked, and new gasket, float, and valve. (But not new solenoid)

I can turn the 706 over -- and with small amounts of gas manually poured in the carb -- it will run -- but it's dying as soon as that gas is gone.

I'm probably forgetting something obvious - but is maybe the solenoid got the gas shut off?

(yes, I've opened the gas at the bowl -- and gas flows well through the line up to the carb.

What am I forgetting? What next?

Thanks
