Well this is in regards to my last post about the H model from New York that I just bought. I ran out to Tractor Supply Company and bought new battery cables, and a new 12 volt coil for my H. Once I got home I noticed it said for systems without the "series resistor", now most setups including mine have a stepdown resistor for the 12 volt conversion, right? Anyway, I was hoping to put all new electrical equipment on the tractor this weekend and try to crank it over. Will this hurt the coil since I have the resister setup for the 12 volt conversion?

Tanner: Remove your old resistor, couple the input and output together. Install your new coil, you will wish you had done it years ago.

Yours has a series resistor. So bypass it or remove it entirey. The Tractor Police won't come after you. Promise.

Or just bypass the resistor by connecting the wire going to the power side of the resistor to the same terminal on the resistor as the wire going to the coil.

just put a wire across the stepdown resister until you rewire it.

coils with internal resistors do not require external resistors

Why can't turn my lights on? If I don't nee the resistor, then I will just take it off, I am not going to bypass it and leave another item hanging off of the tractor. Thanks for the insight. The guys at Tractor Supply said that this is the only 12 volt resistor that they sold for the IHC tractors. So I assumed it was the correct one to use.

Ok. I was able to rebuild the Dist. this evening. When I took it apart I noticed the coil, it was a 6-Volt coil. Ok so here was the original setup that came with it. Aparently it had a 12 volt battery, a 6-volt starter motor, 6 volt coil, dist. and an alternator. Can I run the 6-volt lights that I have on the tractor with the 12 volt set up, minus the resistor.??
