Mornin',

Has anyone ever bought a plastic grille insert from this site? Are they OEM or knock-offs?

Thanks,

Allan

Allen, is that the 966 with loader and cab that you bought? If so, could you post some pictures of the "restoration"? If it's half as good looking as your 686, it will be one fine looking machine. Are you going to take off the cab and loader?? Thanks, and I enjoy your posts...Cmore

Hey Cmore! Long time no see!

Yes Sir. She is stripped clear down to her skivies now (looks pretty darned sad).

Cab & loader are off, tractor split in two to replace the main clutch (thanks to that silly loader) and the rest of the tractor is lying in pieces all over the darned shop. Right in the middle of the engine O/H now (had a seepy liner).

Only problem with this one is the darned sheet metal in front of and above the batteries; if I find those parts, this one is gonna be an easy one as the tractor only has 4609 hours on it and is in real good shape otherwise.

Was lucky enough to have like-new tires and it's gonna get new brakes & a front wheel bearing repack, just because.

I'll charge the batteries on my camera and get ya some pictures today.

Thanks for the hollar,

Allan

Allan -- did not notice who posted, just blurted out an answer -- If you are talking about your 966, forget what I said, as I interpreted "grille insert" to be the thingy for the H/M.

CN,

You've got your wires crossed.

The real ones are plastic! They came new from the factory that way. IH quit using metal grills with the 56 series.

Allen,

My 966 was bought new I think in 1971. I'm going to check tonight, but I believe that it has a white metal grill. There may have been a change made sometime during the model years from the metal to plastic. I'm offering this info to you in the spirit of letting you know that you may have an option on grill inserts! I like options! :>)

I thought that they were really thin white metal. Our 966 hasn't has one for so long that I can't remember what it was made of. On ours, a tree pulled it out of the grill while my dad was plowing. He turned around just quick enough to see it go through between bottoms one and two. It was bent into a lopsided u, and we chucked it out. Because it bent like that, I just assumed it was metal. You would know better than me though. When it happened, I was only about six or seven.

Hi Chadd,

Boy, dunno.

Bought a new 966 in '72 and then a new 766 in '75 and they both had plactic grilles in 'em. If you dropped 'em, they would crack or break like a model airplane.

But, who knows how things were done during that time by IH?

Mornin' Rusty,

Yeah, you're probably right. Even a lot of the parts from CaseIH are aftermarket reps.
