I am not clear whether this is a B or an A. The back screams A while the narrow front tells me B. Think it is a conglomeration of the two?

It looks like these pictures were not all taken at the same time. In some the left rear tire is on backwards on others it is mouted correctly.

I think Red Dave is right. I'm guessing as long as the wheels are dished out like that it would be stable. Dished in you get an accident waiting to happen. Be careful and don't support Darwin.

Take Care

This is a B with the axle extension on the left side removed and a drive axle installed from an A. Then you set the rear tread so the tractor will be stable enough for a WOODS belley mower and that way the left side runs inside of the mower swath. There are several ones around here and i have set some up that way. You just cut 22in out of the drawbar and weld together. Makes a great set-up. Wheel wts can be added inside of the center section for stability. Setting the rear tread is much easier with turf tires as you dont have to worry about tread going the rite way. Single fronts are easier to steer and are quicker for around trees ect. Another thing go to a muffler shop and have them bend a u-shaped piece so the muffler hangs down and dont catch on tree limbs.

Anything's possible after this many years. When I was very young my grandad drove a hay sweep tractor which was a reversed A. Had the wide front axle under it. But the "funny" thing was that someone had put the extended left axle tube from a B on the rearend. Never have asked grandad why this was, but I'd bet he bought it that way.

I got a B that is just like it except the wheels are not dished out. I would love to find a axle and tube to put it back to what it is supposed to be. I have not run mine yet, but it sure looks like an accident waiting to happen on anything but flat ground

It is indeed a model B. The serial number perfix FAB indicates as such. The left side shaft housing has been removed and replaced with a drive shaft from a model A, and the drop housing remounted. That in essence gives it nearly the same rear configuration as the A but with the longer offset tube found only on the B under the operators seat. It just goes to show what someone can do with a tractor in 60 years. I"ve also seen a B or BN which has had the narrow front pedistal removed and a wide front assemble from an A installed to create either a wide front B or an entended rear A. Take your pick. Either way lessens the resale value, but may make the tractor more applicable to the current owner.

Hi Josh, I think it's a Farmall B, have you pushed any snow? We had 14 inches this time last year. It has been very wet with mild temps so far. Don't forget to pour some tranny juice down those sparkplug holes on that M and let it set until spring. Hal

No snow yet. Been working on my sled lately and a lot of overtime in the office. Everyone wants everything done before Christmas break. Go figure.

Hi Josh, I rather have the snow than all this rain. We've received around 10 inches in the last 30 days and it's still raining. Sure glad I plowed when I did and the barley is up too.

I worked a lot of overtime over the years, some years during the Viet Nam war as much as 1000 hours in a year. Did they sell that Farmall B that was on Ebay? They're busy at APG since this war started in Iraq and 9/11.
Be careful snow-mobiling, that's if you ever get any snow. Hal

From the pictures, it appears to be a B that somebody removed the left side differential shaft and housing, replaced it with a stub shaft (as used on an A) then turned the wheels to put the dishes out.
In effect, they reduced the basic overall rear width by 22 inches, which would be very unstable, then compensated somewhat by turning the wheels around.
You can tell that it probably was originally a B, not a BN or an A, by looking at the way the seat mounts are about 4 inches from the right side fender.
They should have let the left side alone, The tractor would be worth more if they had, in my opinion..

I agree with Red Dave.

That is the only thing I could come up with, too.
