Super A steering modification ??

I would like to ask y"all for opinions on what I want (need) to do to my steering column.
Since I think I"m probably larger (6"3"/270lbs.) than the typical farmer that bought this tractor, I "m thinking of cutting the shaft near the front box and welding a 3/4" drive universal drive to it.
I would then extend the rear mount upward so I can steer, shift and work the clutch without my legs being crushed by the bottom of the steering wheel.
Does anyone see any major problems with this being done?
Any other suggestions or comments or techniques would be appreciated.

Bruce: I am about your height and only slightly less on weight. I thought about doing what you are proposing, then tried something else much less expensive that works well. Using 1.5" square tubing, I made spacer rails which mount between seat and current mounting. This raises the seat 1.5" but also allows you to move it back much farther. My tractors all have rear rockshaft and it doesn't strike seat anymore, it used to. My seats are back 2-3 inches farther than before.

It surprised me how well this worked. I did my Super A, my son about same height but under 200 lbs. remarked how much easier it was getting in and out of seat. I had an old coat draped over the seat, thus he didn't notice the changes that had been made. I then did my Farmall 130 and still have my 140 to do. I'm reminded of this every time I get on that tractor. I think you would find this works well.

By the way I have one 15" steering wheel and 2 - 18", I see little difference in steering and it does give better clearence for the knees. It however didn't stop me from putting the square tubing rails under seat, of Farmall 130.

A slightly smaller steering wheel might help with the clearance problem. It would increase the steering effort, but you probably can handle that.
