Farmall H counter shaft oil seal

dropped belly pump to rebuild and noticed a possible oil leak from the counter shaft. Was wondering, can I pull off the counter shaft front bearing retainer and replace the gasket and the counter shaft oil seal without getting into the transmission while I have access to it through the belly pump housing? Any tricks that I need to be aware of? Is the transmission counter shaft nut left handed threads or standard?

Yep you sure can. Do have to remove the lift all though.

You can replace the seal with no problem. May have a little trouble getting the drive coupling off but that's the worst of it. All right hand threads.

Can you change the countershaft seal with out dropping the hydrolic pump?

Like Michael said, you need the room to work on it. I think it's a good idea to replace the seal above that (the input shaft to the transmission) while you have the lift-all removed. I just use a floor jack with a block of wood and lower the lift-all. A long pair of bolts screwed into the tractor through the liftall will hold the lift-all in place when removing the wood block so the lift-all can be completely lowered on the floor jack. Clear as mud!!?? Kind of hard to explain but works well.

Dale changing the seal is easy but you need room to do it, you have to drop the liftall and then its a breeze...Mike in Exeter Ontario
