Unreal ! The number series IH is lots better and more versatile. H Farmalls are too common and especially if this thing is not factory. I guess it is like getting paid for something, that never really was ! The 300 and 400 makes more sense to have ! Give me the number series Farmalls any day ..... real tractors !

I know what you mean about newer tractors if you are making real crop . My M and A do my little jobs fine and if they break I can fix them without taking out second mortgage on place. Have seen a lot of the real repair bills on the real tractors.

If a shop-built H is worth that kind of money I will sell my shop-built 1/2 super H. If anyone is interested I am asking only $10,000. A real bargain by comparison.

Its nice but I sure wouldnt give $15,000 for a put together tractor.I just hope the new owner is still happy with his purchase.

The really sad part of the whole thing is that someone butchered what was probably a very restorable Farmall 300. Farmall Hs are not hard to find, they are a dime a dozen. Even a super H is not too hard to find, but if you are looking for a good, straight 300 or 350 you will look for a long time, I am not saying you won't find one, but the search would be easier if these tractors weren't being cannabilized to create something that never existed before. I would rather see someone install a Chevy V-8 into an H.

No doubt that is a nice tractor, but for $15,000, one would have thought it would at least have rear wheel weights, wfe, and I sure hope that seat cover is to protect an already canvassed seat, and not simply covering bare metal. I suppose that whoever won the bid is a happy owner, and I"m sure the seller is happy to get that price. For a unique, homebuilt configuration, though, even with unlimited funds, I would have stopped bidding about $10,000 ago. There are too many beautiful and impecible restorations in the $5,000 range to pay that much for a modified tractor that was never produced in that state. Its like having a 1969 Malibu SS with a 454 out of a 1972. Nice car, but the original 396 is worth 10 times as much, except to that person who will over pay for a 454. Market dictates, I guess.

Again I agree with you. Given the choice, I would go the $15K on an impecible straight H, before the 'glue together hi-bred'. (But really, it is probably because of that darned tricycle front end!) LOL!

Cowman: Don't think I would rush out and start restoring SHTA's or for matter tractors in general. I know it takes two bidders to create such a price. My thinking, the whole event was a publicity stunt. When was the last time you or anyone else on here ever came close to getting their money back on a complete restoration.

I'm not saying this event was a bad thing. I believe true restorers of farm tractors should be much better rewarded than they have been in the past. That SHTA has a lot of work put into it, if the guy counts all his costs plus a return for his labour on that tractor, I for one will not be envious of the profit left from the $15,000.

I live close to canton and that was a very nice tractor. The man that owned the tractor buys and sells tractors all the time. He purchased the tractor from another local man some time ago. Local talk is that he paid less than 25% of what the tractor sold for at this auction. As I understand it all the mechanical was done buy the first owner and the man who sold the tractor at auction had the cosmetics done. I think the man who bought this tractor has a very nice tractor and a sure conversation starter and the original owner got what he wanted out of the tractor when he sold it and I'm sure the man who sold it at auction is happy. Buy the way this was a very interesting auction to watch. I am a 2 cyl fan but to see so many IH letter tractors being sold at one shot was very enjoyable. There was a huge local interest in this acution as Canton IL was the home of the P&O plow works which became the IH plow works and so many people in this area worked or had someone who worked in the IH plow works so the local paper had articles and everyone talked about it for days before and still talking about it know. I went buy there yesterday afternoon and there are eight or ten of those tractors still there.

Hugh this was a large auction that was advertised in RED POWER. My friend that is building one said it wont be cheap but he has a fellwo that wants one and is glad to pay. Some people just have money and are glad to spend. There is a great fairly new brick house that fellow bought and has is full of 65-66 mustang convs. Just had them take out walls that were needed. Come down and i can show you a 800,000 dollar barn pegged and doweled finished with oak completely BOSE sound system. Then we can go to his workshop and see all the MASSEY tractors,self propelledpicker and grain drills restored along with his collection of hay track carriers. Nice to have great hobbies.

I agree with you, in that the cost vs. profit on this project has to be close to the break even point. I would hate to go out and buy two tractors to begin with, and then hire the work done to put them back together.
At least in this case the new owner has an unique tractor with some real useable value. Unlike some of the bidders on eBay that are buying $29K grilled cheese sandwiches and $65K haunted aluminum walking canes!

Im not real smart but I like to wrench some I admit to building a SHTA out of a burnt 300 utility and other parts on hand I can tell you it is fun to drive has lots of speed and it looks like an H until you look closer for my own enjoyment I like it as f ar as telling someone it was factory built NO WAY Im quite proud of it and to tell the truth it was a money eater to get it finished
