My 300 Utility has a weld on the hydraulic tank plug.I imagine somebody welded up the vent hole.I dont know why they would do that....unless fluid sprayed out of it when they overfilled it,or it kept the leaks at a minimum (created a suction so fluid couldnt leak out when sitting?).Also, the seat track seems to screw right thru the tank....could this cause a source of leakage(when the tank is full)?

I have 3 300U and 2 350U tractors. They all have the dipstick. Is there a chance yours got broken off?

The weld on the filler plug is on all of them, don't know why. The breather for the system is in the middle of reservoir, just behind filler plug. It's either a 3" cap with vent holes in it or a small filter about 1" diameter.

My 300U has a threaded pipe plug on the front very close to where the outgo/return lines come into the reservior, which is the full level. With the plug out the fluid runs out when full.

Is the weld on the cap there to hold in the dipstick (which is part of the cap unit)? The vent hole on a 300U is located elsewhere on the lid. Also, the fluid level shouldn't be high enough to cause a leak through the seat mounting bolts if they go all the way through. I've had the lid on mine off and can't remember how deep they were. Hope this helps.

Well,I overfilled the reservoir.....its tough to see how much you have in it when the funnel is stuck in the hole. lol
The cover is actually a square headed pipe plug on mine, with a dipstick inside.I'm wondering if thats original. With everything else on this one,its been cobbed for way too long....I aim to straighten this thing out....eventually.

Your description of the filler plug and description matches mine, which I'm pretty sure is probably original. If you haven't already done so, get a operator's, parts and service manual for the 300U. The parts book is good to figure out what is original, and what has been added/modified at a later date. Binder books is a good source for quality reprints.
