Finally got the 300U to run right! It was a number of things....water in the fuel, bad spark plug, and timing was off.She revs to around 2000 now and you can tell when the governor kicks in under load.It started after sitting for 5 days on the first crank!
Now...the next problem. When using the hydraulics the pump whines something fierce and the hydraulics seem rather slow.I think the pump is almost worn out....any suggestions there?

Also, there are 2 pedals on the right side...one is brake..whats the other for? (the TA?)
(Obviously a newbie question....).

Paul,

That hydraulic pump screamin' at you is really a good sign.

Dhermesc is right; sounds like the screen is plugged or you are low on fluid. That screamin' sound means the pump is trying to "pump" and can't.

I refilled the fluid,it was near empty.I didnt drain it or clean the screen though. My manual still hasnt come in the mail yet,so things like the hyraulic drain location is still a mystery to me.I replaced a bad hose and the fluid seems to be a very light color (mainly due to me refilling it).Is the screen a metal mesh that just comes out and gets cleaned/blowed thru?

The screen is attached to the reservoir cover, which is what the seat bolts to. That cover is about 80 lb, so if you have an engine hoist to lift it with, your back will thank you. You can't set the cover down right-side-up without risking damaging the screen, so make sure you have some blocks to set it on or turn it over. Scrub it with a toothbrush and kerosene to get the crud out of it.

You may need to prime the system if the pump has run dry, as it may not pull enough. I just put a rubber-tipped air hose in the vent opening and pressurized it to about 5-10 psi (no more than that) with the engine running. It's pretty obvious by engine noise when it starts pumping again.

In reply to your hydraulic question, did you replace the hydraulic fluid yet? You might be surprised how much that will help your pump and the whine. Lots of old tractors with motor oil (or worse gear oil) in the resorvior along with some water and other crud.

On a 300 row crop the drain and filter (screen) is on the right side of the tractor below the touch controls, should be in the same place on a utility. If I'm wrong somebody will correct me in a few moments.

One pedal for the right side brake, one for the left side brake. It's for turning.
Be careful when traveling fast, don't push just one, lock them together.

I kinda thought so when I saw the flip out lever that would lock them together.Just wanted to make sure.So that means there are 2 brake discs....
Question on that....if you had to replace the discs and you unbolted the circular housing cover, would anything snap out at you?

Nope. Just pull the cover and replace the disks. Also clean the ball bearing ramp assembly between the two disk haves. Pretty straight forward once you get it apart and see how it works.
