please tell me you all fix up farmalls for the fun

The fire has been lit, I have spent most of the last month getting life back in the beast, fixing things, changing fluids, etc. Next, I will split the engine to change the clutch --- that should be interesting. Then, --- ah, you know.

This is the most fun I have had in my (sad) life.

I just checked. I think I might be a little "illegal" too! :>)

Now, I do have to admit, we do have new tractors on the place(not gonna mention their color) and that my F-20 will never be the "primary" mowing tractor on the ranch, and my 650D probably won't ever be the tractor that's called on to get the feeding done every day. Mainly the jobs that are done with these older tractors are the smaller jobs...sometimes even jobs a guy comes up with just for an excuse to use the old tractors ;). But they're still getting things done that'd normally reqire putting hours on an expensive newer tractor that's way overpowered for the job at hand.

If I wasn't working on old tractors I'd be working on something else. I'm more of a "function over form" type of guy. If I put effort into fixing something up, I wanna be able to USE it. I used to build hotrods...and to really "use" one of those for what they're built for is kinda hard on drivers liscence points...At least with my old tractors I can use the heck out of 'em, stay outta jail, and actually be accomplishing something at the same time. Best of both worlds!

First, I want to know what I have. If I buy one already fixed up, I don’t know what is in it.

Second, most of them were bought new by my family, so have a sentimental value to me.

Third, I can’t afford to have someone else do it for me.

Fourth, I like to be able to say that I did it myself! (Notice I didn’t include because it was cheaper to fix it myself, because it usually isn’t). I also do my own remodeling in my house, for the same reason. :>)

Seriously,I repaired the old tractors so I could use them. And yes,you will go over budget everytime.
