Does anyone have an idea where I can purchase some 16" or 14" plow shares to fit a plow like the one shown in the attached picture? I have worn mine out and have no idea where to get any replacements or even good used ones. My I-H dealer is at a loss also. Al

I have rebuild a 3-bottom 16" roll over plow for my 560D. I got the moldboards, shins, and shares from Big R in Greeley, Colorado. I got the land sides from John Deere. John Deere had all the parts, but only the land sides were cheaper at the JD shop. The John Deere web site was able to cross reference the IH part numbers. One of the issues with the roll over plow is it costs twice as much to rebuld!

May cost twice as much to rebuild, but, should also take twice as long to wear out.

I think I only saw a rollover plow in use once, always thought they were the neatest thing.

You know, the funny thing is, there were a lot of horse drawn 2 way plows.....no-one knocks them that i've seen.

I think that, for the most part, they are somewhat of a regional thing. Same with disc plows, I've never seen one in the flesh, but, i know they are around in certain parts of the country

I think some are being too hard on you Allan. I always thought the concept of a two way plow was great but my dad didn't want anything but a pull type plow because of cost and performance. He felt he could always control the depth better with a pull type verses a semi-mount or fully mounted plow. I'm glad you get the folks over here on yt to speak out whether they agree with you or not. Keep up the good work. We all know in our hearts' that you are not dumb like you keep telling us. Allan: Never flog a dead horse. There are other type of plows, and thousands of good reasons why they were built. The thousands actually came in denominations of 100 and laid down their money for a plow.

I'm not saying I dislike rollover plows. They have their place. There are however situations where other plows perform better. One thing you should never do is question the wisdom of those that bought new plows, any type.

Allan: I agree it was a good photo, and roll over plows are far more useful than users have ever given them credit. Like you I really don't understand why more of them were not sold. I guess it was two factors, weight and cost.

I have seen you on this rollover plow issue on other threads in the past. I've learned since coming to YT almost 5 years ago, there are just some things not worth flogging; like 6 cylinder Farmall gassers are just parts tractors or a good candidate for a diesel repower. Curing 6 volt starting is nothing more than 1 gauge cables. Fine to go with alternator if you want better charging, but a 6 volt alternator will do.

Most of these guys don't even know what a dead furrow is let alone 6 double dead furrows across a 500' wide field. Since most of them are doing a 1/4 acre garden, probably quicker to back 60' than turn around, and they still end up with a single dead furrow just like you. That is providing they didn't travel with wrong wheel in furrow.

This is a fun thread of comments! What is interesting is to see and hear stories about this or that regarding plows. I assume most of the big one way plows are used on large acre farms where you are not worried about flood irrigating. My area is totally flood irrigated! No one in my area has a need or desire to own one way plows of any type. All we have are two way plows as we can't stand the "dead furrow" issue. It disturbs to much gound and makes for a situation where we can't water effectively. Our farms are also typically square and about 40 acres each. Two way plows, thankfully, just leave us one dead furrow to mess around with. We generally back plow across the dead furrow to reduce the effect of throwing the soil to one side. Hope someone can point me in the direction of some new I-H 16" shares for my two bottom two way plow before spring plowing time!

Al: Are you near a TSC store? It may not be the case every where but here in SW Ontario you take in the old plow wear part and they can match it. They may have to order it but they can get it. I was amazed at what they were able to get.

actually those rollover plowes are pretty neat , ive not ever used one but i saw a couple being used, it looks like it saves a lot of time, even if it doesn't have that classic look, ericlb

We never plow the sky at the same time as the dirt, but I guess if you're equipped, it is probably no more load on the tractor.

Or is that a spoiler to keep the plow from going too deep?

Yes we all know that allen has made sure we all know what they are and how they work Andy was makin a joke. Now for ALLEN I have a MM plow here that will plow circles around your roll over. Well I only plow in circles when I have had a bad day. But I am a IH man Been that way since my grandpa introduced me to them when I was a we little lad in the sixties. But I sure do like that set of MM plows to plow the Sandy loam I have here in NY. JON
