Hello Guys,

These are "not" the springs in the pressure plate. I know what they are for.

I was getting ready to start putting the 230 bell houseing back together after a pilot bearing and clutch replacement and noticed on the parts scematic that there is suposed to be 2 springs in there somewheres around the throwout bearing.

There wasnt any springs when I took it apart. I just checked the tractor and there where not any ears on anything for springs to hook too!

Can anybody tell me what the springs are for and if I need them?

Parts list says...2 spring, return, clutch release bearing(for tractors not equiped with hydra creeper)

I dont believe I have a hydra creeper. What is a hydra creeper?

I am trying to upload a scan of the parts blowup. How do you upload a photo to this forum?

Randy

Hydra Creeper was offered on the 230. The hydraulic pump ran a hyd motor that connected to the PTO shaft(externally) and because of the transmission driven PTO the tractor would move. The 4 speed trans gave 4 different ratios. An excellent creeper system rather advanced technology using hyds in 1956-57. Probably led to the hydrostatic trans 10 years later. There are several 230s and retro fitted to S-C in my area amongst market gardeners. (those diehard Farmall lads!). I imagine heat(no cooler) and limited torque could be problematic.

Also there is a spring on the clutch petal for its return. It is hooked to the throwout bearing so when the petal returns the throwout bearing comes with it.

Well, you know what "hydra" indicates (hydraulic). You know what creep means (to move slowly), and that many tractors have a super-slow "creeper" gear. I would put signifigant money on a "Hydra Creeper" being a hydraulic device that gives the tractor the ability to move slowly.
