my super h used to work great now it doesn,t. It will start and idle great with no choke but as soon as you want to speed it up it chokes and wants to stall. If the choke is on 3/4 it will run and throttle up and down great.I checked my gas flow from the tank and to the carb and blew out all the jets, plenty of gas there. I also checked the dist. springs they are not broken or siezed. There is lots of gas in the tank and I have relesed the cap so that there is no presure. I also checked the intake manifold with ascetalene while it was running no leaks there. I looked in the govenor housing and all looks well maybe the spring is a little week but hey. Need some input here guys Tks

You have received great advise but look at this problem, You are relation to a fuel ratio problem by cutting off some of the air by choking you are reaching the correct fuel to air ratio. Thus as suggested by getting more fuel to the carb you can allow more air which means the choke can be opened all the way. AlBie

I,m thinking that maybe the float needle valve is maybe not letting enough fuel in the bowl,do you know the measurement for the float .when I pull the throtle back it starves it almost right a way,so I m thinking that maybe there needs to be more fuel in the bowl. I just don,t know why it would run fine before and not now. Is there any way it could be bad fuel. I emptyed all I could out of the tank and the sediment bowl and put fresh fuel in but same thing happened. The main thing is need more fuel!! The main jetis clear.

That is a plugged power jet. When the choke is on or nearly so gas is fed thru another passage and this will allow the engine to run fairly well.It is getting enough gas thru the screen or it wouldn't run with the choke on. Check the bottom of the float bowl the power jet opening for a slug of dirt or rust.

Clean your carb in carb cleaner, blow it out and put a kit in it.

Same problem I had with my 460. After messing around for quite a wile worked great after the 2nd carb rebuild.

Just a guess here but I think that if you grease the dickens out of that bearing in the governer it may work right. It happened to me on my H, I used to grease and oil it a few times a year.

He said it runs ok with the choke 3/4 closed -- that's a dead giveaway -- fuel.

I have a 656 gas tractor that occasionally acts the same way. I have found that where the gas line goes into the carbureter there is a small screen that gets plugged. I clean the small screen and it runs like new.

I don't have the data for the Super H, it comes with the kit. However the measurement for the M (very similar) is 1 5/16" from the bottom of the float to the top of the gasket -- this only means that the float is level. I still say your carb is dirty, they are hard to get clean sometimes. HOWEVER the correct adjustment for the main jet screw is 5 turns out -- you don't adjust it until it simply runs smooth. The screw can be adjusted in from that position for better fuel economy, but it will not run right if you adjust it like the carb on the straight H/M, that is in until rough, out until smooth.
