cub head repair

I have two dead cubs here and am tryin' to make one live one...both have been frozen and have cracked heads. Just the water jacket on the top center. This is a non-presurized cooling system so what is your recomendation for repair...weld, braze, JB weld or new replacement?

I have a head here I can get magged for you. By the time you weld or braze and then have machined back flat you may be better off buying a good used one.JB weld is only for cheap people or jockeys who are out to just make a fast buck.Email me if interested and I can send it out to you.

First choice:

Braze, preheating the head thoroughly to 300 deg F to 400 deg F then slow cooling. Take the head to a machine shop and get it trued up as the last step.

Second choice:

JB Weld coupled with Barrs Leaks. Still wise to have the head trued as the freeze fracture will have left residual stresses which may have left it warped. Years ago (1970) I fixed a Chevy 265 V-8 with epoxy and drove it four years with no apparent failure. Water jacket in block was pushed out it's thickness plus 1/8" just under the deck.

Third choice:

Nickel weld with appropriate preheat followed by machining.

Fouth choice:

Use up another head and discard the repairable heads.
