I used to couldn't at night either. Had my prostate fixed, so now I have to get up. Got up before I had it fixed, but it didn't do any good.

Sorry to hear about your work hours Paul. Have done that on occasion myself. Except for running a sweet corn picker in August/September, working the graveyard shift stinks!

And now when I gotta get up in the middle of the night for a bit of “personal relief” all I want to do toss a fresh log into the stove and crawl back to bed. (My 5:30 AM wakeup time comes WAY too soon anymore.) So checking what’s happening on this board is about the farthest thing from my mind - nothing personal of course! ...Bob

Paul, Sorry to hear about the change in your work hours. It has been over twenty-five years since I worked shift work in the Navy. I don't miss it at all, although some people enjoy those hours. I get to work at 6:00 am CST but it is usually a little after 6:00 when I get started reading this board. Some mornings are just more interesting on here than others. We got a little over 12" of snow here in Omaha with a temp of about +1 F. My C's are put away for the winter. Never tried starting them when it is this cold. They would proably start and like it but I am getting where I sure don't. I live in a townhouse so it was nice seeing somebody else out plowing my driveway when I was backing out. Have a good nap today/tonight. Randy

Mornin' Randy,

When I was a young lad and just outta the Navy, I worked for a sizeable outfit down there called Rosen-Novak Chevrolet/Cadillac. They were located on Dodge down around 24th street.

They still there?

Thanks,

Allan

Nope. They closed down a while back. They were at 25th & Dodge. I work for Northern Natural Gas and we were just a block away at 24th & Dodge. We moved out of downtown in '91 and are now at 103rd & Pacific. Used to be an old horse farm here. You wouldn't even recognize Omaha these days. It is growing to the west as fast as they can put in streets and roads. No idea where all of these people work but they seem to be making a lot of money judging by the size of the houses going up.

Hey Allan, I lived in SW Iowa as I have said before, and I worked for four years at Sutherland Lumber Co. on 2920 West L St. in Omaha from '64-'68. My dad retired from there after 27 years selling splinters. The place is now closed up and empty. Sure seems a shame looking back at the lines of livestock trucks stretching out L street clear to 108th on Sunday nights trying to get in to unload. But I digress. Times they are a changing. 15 here this morning. Later, Harley

Paul: Well I usually am on here by 5 am EST, this morning I was about a hour early. Bladder said, its time to go. Ocasionally I get on here late at night, again like Dick D, poor sleep habits are the cause. Problem with late night posting, no one is ever on here, after about 1.5 hours it gets quite dull. We seem to have a new breed of farmer these days, they keep bankers hours.

I'll try and do better. What I like about this early morning posting is no one ever disturbs you from the background. JD Humm, (now there is an early riser we haven't seen in awhile) called these early morning hours his quite computer time. I like this time, but again not much activity until the bank opens.

So my question for the day is how much snow will a Super C push in any given 12 month period, south of the Mason Dixon line. I should have perhaps worded that a bit and said near, as I'm forgetting whether you are north or south of the line.

Thank the Lord someone is alive out there. Hugh, I'm north of the Mason Dixon here in SW MO. Last year we never had more than 2 inchs of snow but the year before was a good one. Seems like we had some every week or two. Tonight or today oh well I get messed up on that,we had 6 inchs of rain at about 45 degrees. A lot of basements have water in them this AM. But as I'm getting ready to drive home it's 17 degrees out so it may be a slippery ride home. Thanks for the reply guys, I sure was bored.

Jimmy somedays I have to check my logbook to see what day it is and sometimes that can be confusing as we run a noon to noon log that starts on one day and ends the next. Tom

Hi Paul we got around 5 inches here at the lake of the ozarks. I could see the creek from my front pourch and after jumping on the kids motorcycle found it was out of its banks and running down the middle of my field. Oh well the pond I have been building is full now and I wasn't done with it yet.

So where is the Mason Dixon line?

In school I learned it was the surveyed line between Pennsylvania and Maryland, putting a good portion of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Missouri south of it.

North/South separation by the Mason Dixon line is an east coast idea, like calling Ohio "midwest".

I know by proper definition Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan are midwest, but in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and maybe the the Dakotas think they are the great midwest.

I'm from southwest Missouri and always thought of myself as southern, but during the Civil War there was a skirmish on my family farm. The family had a square heavily built log cabin at the time and were firing north at the Union bushwhackers and south at the Confederate irregulars at the same time so we've always claimed to be neutral.

Andy, that "midwest" thing always confused me too. I like to think of western Nebraska as the "real west"

According to the experts at Wilson Creek Battlefield, Missouri was a Confederate State. There was so much occupation by Union Troops, most people thought we were a Union State. What little I know about my family tree I had relatives on both sides.

Part of my childhood was spent in Marietta, GA, close to Kennesaw Mountain. Used to ride the bike around the battlefield and look for minnie balls. Those were the days.

As I write this it is 6:52pm Thursday.I think we are 12-14 hrs ahead of you. Do you work rotating shifts or did you get this shift by senority. Retired, moved south, went further south to visit kids over the Christmas,New Year holiday.Like Jakarta, and no we werent affected by the tsunamis here. Worked plant maintenance(electrician)and tried to farm. Due to health concerns had to quit both.

Hi Steveormary,I'm just filling in for 3 months. Our night shift person was promoted to days and they have hired her replacement but it will take a while to get her trained and up to speed. Another coworker is fixing to have a baby and we where in a little bit of a crunch so I said I would fill in for a while. Parts of it I like. The phone never rings and no one is looking over my shoulder. The down side is we are trying to sell our home and the realtors have called everymorning so far wanting to show the house and I have to roll out of bed.

So just where are you at?

I worked a job in Jakarta in 1979. The project was actually at the Krakatau Steel Mill on the west end of Java.

Andy,

About all I know is we are somewhere in Jakarta. Son and d.i.l. work at the US Embassy here. They live in govt.housing about 20 min.from the Embassy.

Paul; Like I say,I know all about shift work. The last good job I had was as 2nd shift(3:30-midnight)plant maintenence. Mostly electrical. Voluntered for that position because I thought it would help with job security. Didnt help, new plant manager didnt like farmers. Enuf of that.
