706 Cutting Out

Blowed snow with my 706 last night and ran fine. Blew snow for a half hour this morning and then it started cutting out. Then to keep it running, I had to pull the choke out 1/4 and put the trottle lever up 1/4. If I turn off the choke or raised the RPM's it would cut out. I put two bottles of heat in it and let it idle for about 10-15 minutes and was able to push in the choke and put it at full RPM's. I had to get the drive open for work so I shut it down and finshed plowing with my M. I hope I solved the problem, any thoughts?
I had filled it full with fresh gas two weeks ago.
Thanks.

There are several things that could have cause this may be a water problem in the gas , you could have gotten snow in the air filter as this does happen , your heat riser may be stuck and the manifold is not heating up wright of it could be carb frosting or snow in the dist. and like one said a restriction in the fuel system . Problems never show up unless you are in a hurry. Also you should be running high test gas in that 706 since our reg 87 gas is not what it use to be old reg gas was 95 octain now high test is 93 the min. of what should be in a 706.

I would guess that it could be caused by either water in the gas or a piece of sediment clogging up the sediment bowl or the hole between the tank and the bowl. If the heet seemed to solve it, I would guess that it was water or condensation in the gas.

Have you checked the sediment bowl lately? It might need emptying and the screen cleaned.

My 706 gas does the same thing. Like you, I need to pull the choke or slow the engine. Nearly all of the time it is gunk plugging up the little passageway in the sediment bulb base. Surprising what tapping on the potmetal housing of the sediment bulb will do for a short-term fix. Generally I had to take off the bulb and probe a little wire up into the holes. Once in a while I have to twist out the shut off and probe that hole too. If the gas starts running strong you know you got the restriction. I think this problem occurs more often when the gas tank is nearly empty. A full tank probably provides a little more pressure to help pass the gunk through. Seems like the stuff that was plugging it was like thick slime. Sometimes you could see it coming out when cleaning it. To completely eliminate the problem I cut some fine fine brass screen and wrapped the fuel inlet on the sediment bulb and tied it with fine wire. I took a hacksaw blade and cut a notch around the sediment bulb inlet pipe for the wire to snug into. This helps hole the wire and screen on. The circled screen is a smaller diameter than the hole in the tank therefore it could be inserted back into the tank. I think some sediment bulbs have this feature. Goodluck.

Yep, thats the problem. My sed. bowl was 1/4 filled with the sludge. I checked my records and I cleaned it 33 hours ago. This never happened before. Im wondering what the cause is. It seems to be running fine now, but wondering if it will happen again.
Thanks for all your help.
