Can you change the bottoms on an IH plow from the old Plow Chief with the sperate point to the newer Super Chief? I am looking at a 1F-11 roll-over that needs bottoms. Do you have to have a different frog? If this is possible, anybody know a salvage yard that might have a 14" LEFT hand bottom. I can find pleny of right hands

Thanks for the information. I have found all the parts EXCEPT the left hand moldboard and frog. I will look to see if the plow cheif frog could be modified for the newer style. Thanks again.

Daniel

Daniel: Lookng at the parts book for the two bottom roll over plow, it shows two separate left and right hand beams. The difference being shear pin trip and trip beam. Some plows also show a rigid beam, which again is a separate pare number. No reference is made on any of the 45 plows in this book as to a different beam for plow chief and super chief. Your specific plow is not in this book. Another item with this is plow bottoms are in another book which I don't have.

Having owned three No.60 trailer plows one of which had plow chief bottoms and the other two with super chief, I believe you can change but will have to change frogs. I was about to find this out for certain, but a guy with enough cash relieved me of my plow chief bottom plow. That was the easy way out with a big plow. Don't think that will work for you, those 1 bottom are scarce as hens teeth. Why don't you buy a share-point for super chief, just to see if frog could be modified. You could then see if worth trying.

My reasoning here is I believe you will have a long search for that left turn frog. I know a guy who has been looking for 10 years with no luck. IH never sold a lot of two way plows, couple that with increased popularity, I doubt if any are being scraped.

Cowman: Actually the plow my friend has is single point fast hitch two way plow for 100, 130 0r 140. When he bought this plow, someone had robbed the frog, moldboard, shin and point from the left turning side. He bought the plow thinking it would not be difficult to find those parts. He has been using it as a right turning plow only ever since.

I don't know specifics on Plow Chief vs. Super Chief. Super Chief is too new for me. In general, to change to a different type bottom, you need to change the entire bottom including the frog. The entire bottoms will interchange where they bolt to the beam.

Jim - So, if I have a 309 fast hitch plow, 14 inch bottoms with the very old style shares, can I update it by changing the entire bottom with a Super Chief bottom, if I found any ?
I do notice the mounting holes on the beams measure the same on my 309 and an IH tumble bug plow we have. I think those holes are similar in a lot of the IH plows ? My 309 currently has such wore out shares..old old styles, I would just as soon put on the newer bottoms I think.

True for any that I have run into. I suppose the later trip beams etc. may be different. But I think the lower end of all the old solid beams was the same.
