1066 Intermittent Clutch Brakes Steering

Any ideas?

What have youfound about this probelm. Filter ? I just bought a 1066 and it woul dnice to know what you did to solve this, just for a future issues, should there be one, hope not. Hey, maybe we could talke one day about your 1066. Thanks.

One thing I can say is that for our 225 acres, we have not yet found anything that tractor WON'T do. The injection pump is set a little too high, and I'm hoping that I can turn it down a little. Just estimating, I think she's spitting out 180 horses. That's a little rough and the tranny, etc.

I agree with the others; you are loosing output oil from that 9 gpm pump for whatever reason.

Since the power steering is the first in line in the food chain for oil, the brakes second and the T/A is last, could be the front pump is trying to go 'feet up' on you.

However, is the tractor making an awful noise when this is going on? Do you loose PTO? Do you loose hitch and remote function as well?

The pressure plate drives this little gizmo, which in turn drives both pumps and the PTO. It is the weak point on the beast too, as it seems to be the main wear point.

I'm not sure about the PTO. The only PTO application we have for it is the grain cart, and we are always in neutral when unloading.

No, there is not an awful noise. It sounds entirely normal. And then you can't steer, clutch or brake and your heart's in your throat!

Judging from the pictures, I geuss they're making progress on your 966?

If you are losing both systems, then there are only two common denominators at play: the supply oil pickup (filter) or the mechanical drive of both pumps.

The only other (way, way outside) possibility is that both pumps are right on the edge of dying (what’s the chances of that? Slim and None?).

I think there is something wacky going on in that filter area. You don’t suppose that the last guy didn’t get things back together quite right when he changed the filter, do you?

I can’t imagine you losing the IPTO input gear and you’re not hearing it. If that thing came unraveled, you’d know it (and so would all of your neighbors). :>) Plus the fact, why should it be okay after you restart the tractor? That wouldn’t make any sense.

Yes, my old tractor is coming along fine. Sure are “money-hungry” aren’t they? :>(

We purchased it at an auction in November of 03',
and have not yet changed the hydraulic fluid and filter-the previous owner had changed all the fluids and filters right before it went up for auction (and put a reman injection pump that is set up WAY to high...).

The fluid level is good and it is clean- and as I recall there is a slight leak around where the filter cover is but thats just a gasket I think.
