Super A PTO uses

What attachments can be used for the off-center SA PTO? I've only found one so far: a belly mower. Were other implements made, i.e. flail mower -- or anything else?

You dont use a pulley on the pto for a belley mower you want to drive it off the belt pulley as the pto only runs 530 and you would have to have an angle drive on the pto with gearing fast enough to run the mower. All the other pto operated things will work. It will bale hay if the windrow is not too big.

I use a belly mower, sickle mower, PTO driven log splitter, power wire winder, and, just for fun, have baled hay with one.

Just the standard U-shaped drawbar which bolts to each lower wheel casting.

They should be available.

Thanks, Andy. One last question (I think): were these implements PTO driven or ground driven? I assume the saw worked off the belt pulley, but what about the rest? I'm still in the dark here...

The offset pto is not as big a deal as people make it to be. You can use practically any PTO driven implement if the implement hitch is compatible with whatever hitch is on the Super A.

Thanks, Al. So, the tractor I'm looking at has no hitch except a pin-type set of holes. What type of hitch would you recommend putting on it for attaching a mower, or should I look at mowers first, then find a compatible hitch? I know a fast hitch, 1 pt., is one possibility.

By "pin set of holes" do you mean the standard draw bar? It looks like a U and it bolts to the the drop housing? If so that's what you get on a Super A.

What you need is a mower that is built for your machine, which would be a fully mounted type (belly or rear) or a semi mount trailer type.

I guess you could install a 1 point from a later model but that's going to take some parts hunting.

We pulled a tedder, a rake and a bailer (not PTO driven) with our A for many years.

I have a 53 Super A and it has a 3 point hitch. Unsure if it's factory or not, but it works great. It also has mid mount hydraulics for the cultivators. The three point will accept any Cat 1 implement.
