Can a 140 engine be installed in a 46 "A" without a tremendous amount of trouble? Thanks!!!

Rick: The engine will bolt right up with no problem. You will probably need to do some modification on coupling the radiator. The A and SA had no water pump. Water pump on 100 and 130 basically covered the bottom end of water jacket, and that was a relatively easy change over. The 140 however has water pump on the fan hub. That may make it a bit more difficult. May also make it easier.

I have a SA and 140, will compare later today, and let you know what obstacials I see. In the meantime you may hear from someone who has tried or done this change. I will get back this evening, with my opinion.

Thanks Hugh, I"ve got an "A" that is cracked and had already been repaired once and I"ve only been able to turn up a 140 engine near here (NW S.Carolina)and was looking at my options. The extra power won"t hurt either as this "A" is an all fuel model so it"s not exactly a powerhouse if you know what I mean!!

Rick: I didn't get a chance during daylight to have good look at my tractors. I went away early this morning and it was dark by the time I returned. I will try and do better in morning. Unless I get a call I should be here until good daylight. I'm just a bit rusty on 140 route of rad hoses. I haven't had 140 near as long as SA and 130.

You will need all the accesories from the 140 (water pump and lower radiator hose connection, fan, generator) as these are all driven by a single thinner fan belt. I don't know how bad the interference will be, but I think the upper radiator neck is going to be the problem. On the early tractors theupper neck and radiator inlet join at about a 45deg angle, on the 140 the upper neck points straight up and the radiator inlet points straight back. It uses a radiator hose with a 90deg bend. The 140 radiator is going to be taller and wouldn't fit under his grill. I think people have done this swap before (I've seen a C153 in a C), but don't know what was required on the upper connection to make it fit. Didn't know what the issues were at time, so didn't look close enough :(

Thanks Stan, I may have to rethink this idea as this engine is missing the accessories.
