Hi D.R.H. So far, we've been 100% happy with the trade. The 686 was a very nice tractor for cleaning barn, cutting hay, raking, baling, and hauling chopper boxes. The main reason we traded was because we switched from a 4-row 38" planter to a 6-row 30" planter. Our 786 was the main tractor at the time, so I didn't want to narrow it up for 30" rows. The 686 was already set for 30" rows, but the 6-row planter had the 1000 RPM pump, and the 686 only has a 540 RPM PTO. Then this beautiful 3088 with 1700 hrs. shows up at a local dealer. So, traded the 686 for it, narrow up the 786, and make the 3088 the main tractor. Three areas where the 786/3088 really beat the 686. 1- The 686 had the hardest-starting D-310 I've ever been around. The 786 and 3088 both have 358's, which will start 10 times better. 2- the brakes. 686 has the old mechanical style, not what you want going down the road with a chopper box. 3- the PTO. With a 686, you don't even have the option of 1000 RPM.

Thanks K.B.for the info.I have a 584 that i rake
ted & move roll bales with & other misc small chores (bushhogging/driveway main etc.)I want to keep this tractor as my 2 sons & wife are comfortable operating.I also have 2-686's both with approx 3300 hrs & in exc cond.I am considering selling 1 of these & thinking of replacing with possibly a 3088 no rops. The 686 is very versitile small or big jobs does exc job.Just wondering is 3088 too cumbersome to cut hay with 9' reg disc mower? rake? roll bale hay?
Do you use 786/3088 now for your haying if so eloborate on that. thank you
