Here's a "dramatization" of how I got my 300U back from the seller.On the back of a 2004 Navistar/International ramp truck!
No,the truck wasnt blue,and the tractor shown isnt a 300U but you get the picture!

Got this much done so far.
Had the 300 and UTILITY emblems with the tractor,but the INTERNATIONAL was missing.
I am missing all on the other side....

Its going to be a long winter....

I'll try to post a pic of mine some day. it's at the farm nestled in for the winter. She is still origional except for a westdorf loader. It was purchased with the tractor though.

Wish mine was in better shape,but overall,its pretty solid.All the repair welds on the loader attachment doesnt impress me,but it seems rugged enough for snow use.Shame when you buy something used (well used!),you usually get somebody elses problems/headaches/mistakes....but I guess it could have been far worse.I was temped to go look at one that was being sold for $2800,but as it had been sitting for years,and it had far too many attachments for my use...I decided against it.From what the guy said,it wasnt in the greatest shape either....but at least it had power steering...I paid about half the price.I guess I will probably wind up putting that much back in! lol
I assume somebody else got it.I hope they are having good luck with it!

Yes,I have seen a couple parted out lately.Seems its a growing trend....(how else can one get parts for these?? lol).I read that one had a cracked block and thats why it was parted out.
Its a shame that they have to pass by the wayside so others can survive....shame on Case/IH....

I don't know about the shame on Case-IH part. Even if IH had not been aquired by Tenneco, they would not have been able to make every part for every tractor, forever. Deere doesn't do that either, no auto or tractor manufacturer does. Case-IH still has "most" parts available -- granted, for a relatively low production tractor such as the 300/350U, some parts are not easy to come by, same with the ones for my 460 hi-utility, of which even less were made. It is to Case-IH's credit that parts are still available, and that they have licensed the rights to companies such as OEM and others that allows them to make a lot of the parts. This type of manufacture of parts is likely to increase. There are more parts now than there were 5 years ago. Keep looking, I bet you find everything.

I do commend Case for not turning its back on IH history like some buyout companies have done in the past when they have bought out long running lines.And I do realize that 300Us only were made for 2 years,as were 350Us (cant understand why those lines didnt continue on longer though)...its just a shame to see old/abandonded/derelict machinery not given a 2nd chance at life because they have to be organ donors for other more fortunate "survivors"....the overall population will decrease further under those conditions.However...to obtain the unobtainable,and to do it at a reasonable cost,more old Utes will be sacraficed to preserve the better examples of the breed.
A moment of silence for those fallen by the wayside....

Tractor and car manufacturers bring out new models to attract customers and meet the competition. In the 40's and 50's IH waited too long to do that and lost market share to Deere. Your 300, I believe, was IH's answer to the Ford 8N and it's successors, along with the Ferguson 30, or whatever the mumber was at that time. The 350U's replacement was the 460U which in many ways is similar to your 300, just as the 60 series row crops were newer versions of the H/M series. At about the same time the 340U appeared, which was slightly smaller than the 350. So, IH really didn't kill off your tractor, they "improved" it-the "-" indicates that many people actually prefer the 50 series over the newer 60 series. At that point in time IH began to realize the status quo was not good enough, and attempted to make up ground, too late.

Yup,you just cant stop the movement of progress.....however,here we are 50 years later and we are searching out and using that old technology once again....who would have thought back then that the 21st century would be so fond of 40s/50s engineering...???

Going to have the crank ground on my 460U along with a new cam, and pistons and sleeves. The engine will then be as good as new. Transmission gears are worn but still very seviceable. You can rebuild these things forever.
