Just lost the impulse (click)on my F20. It has an American Bosch MJB4A-106 mag. Where do I start????? ?? Are there (balls) and springs in there????? ?? Maybe just a spring????? ? Could it just be gummed up????? What should I do first to find the trouble???? Does the mag have to be removed from the tractor, or can I just leave it in place????? ALL help will be appreciated. Have never worked on mags before, but would like to learn. Could send it off, but want the satisfaction of at least trying to fix it myself, without damaging anything. Thanks in advance. JIM in ILL

THANKS for the information. Will try to get the manual and am very grateful for the pictures!!!!! ! The 20 has been sitting for over 27 yrs (inside) and just now got it running and then the impulse stopped. Other than that it is OK as far as I know. We bought it back in the late 50's and now that I have gotten some interest back, I wanted to get it running again. As this is my first attempt at working on a mag, am I "bitting off" more than I can handle??? Thanks again to all. JIM

I guess that depends on how resourcefull you are. There are a lot of mags that take special tools to do things to. Tools that cant be found very easly anymore. So you may have to make certain things . Also have to be real carefull not to break anything. Some parts are very hard to find also.If you down load the manual I was talking about and read it through a few times you will get a better idea on if you want to atemp it or not. JON

Understand what you are saying. Found the site, but was unable to find anywhere to download the manual. Appreciate it if you could give me some more info on the site navigation. I certainly do not want to break anything, but feel confident
(right now) that I at least want to do it. Thanks again for your time and also for time you spend answering questions for others. JIM I am more mechanical inclined that I am computer inclined. LOL

I have to appologize, after rereading my response it kind of come off as being smarta$$. I did not intend it to be that way. I just wanted to be sure he got the correct information he was asking for. That mag should have a set of weighted impulse dogs, some of them had a torsion spring of sorts. More than likely the dogs are corroded on the pivots, the sring(s) could be broken. A good cleaning and oiling will more than likely fix the problem. If you have any problems let me know I have parts and can repair if neccessary.

Boy I sure do appreciate all the help and replies that I have recieved. No Mark, I do not believe your comment was taken out of context. Just a normal reply to a question. I would have probably done the same. Thanks. JIM

you might be able to oil it and get it freed up but I would probibly dissasemble and clean. Likely you will find a lot of rust. Don't break anything, don't know where you would find parts.

Nebraska,

Where in the heck do you find all of the literature on these of F-series tractors? I've searched for many years with no luck.
