Farmall "C" Will start and run about 2 seconds then quits. Try to restart and it won't hit a lick. Let it sit 1/2 hour to 1 hour will start for another 2 seconds and quit. Was wired to 12 volt battery so I put a voltage drop between on/off switch and coil. Didn't help. Took 12 volt out, disconnected altenator and put in 6 volt. Didn't help. H-E-L-P

Classic case of clogged fuel delivery with just enough to allow a start. Could be in fuel tank, line or inside carb.

Some good posts here, but I would like to add a little. If you have good fuel flow to the carburetor, then it is electrical, if not you have a fuel line restriction. First, if it runs while you have the starter engaged and then dies, and when you try to start doesn’t fire (which is how you described it) then it is probably coil or condenser or both. Replace them with good parts and I believe your problem will be solved. I doubt it is wired incorrectly, because if that was the case it should be trying to run every time you have the starter engaged. However, it would take only a couple of minutes to verify this with a volt meter or test light attached to the power wire on the coil. My two cents…

If it dies as soon as you release the starter switch you have the wire between the ammeter and the starter on the wrong ammeter terminal.

Not a an A, B, C, H, M.

The problem you are describing is on a solenoid activated starter where you are putting 12v to the coil during cranking.

The problem I had WAS on an M, nothing mounted on the starter. I had cleaned all the connections, and hooked up the amp wire to the wrong terminal. Switched the wire and it continued to run.

My CRS just went into remission -- On the H/M without the solenoid, the wire from the ammeter connects to the starter switch, which has two terminals, I connected it to the wrong terminal. One terminal has the switch to battery cable and the ammeter cable, the other has the cable that goes directly to the starter.

Have you checked if your plugs are wet after cranking with the choke on? If your fuel line is restricted somewhere, it could cause your engine to starve for fuel after using what little fuel has seeped into the carb. It's a theory anyway.

The 12V has likely already fried the coil or condenser, try switching (condenser first) them out.

Bad condenser, bad coil.
