I"ve been told that is it possible to bore a 263 cubic inch on a 560 to make a 301 cubic inch like an 806 or something of that nature.I know the crank and rods are the same but one is a 3 9/16 bore and the other is 3 13/16,, sounds like a lot of room for error to me.One more thing if it can be done what would be the does and don"ts,,, will it run hot?To be honest I"m wanting to build one for my puller,,,,question is ,,, do I try to find a 301 or try to bore to make a 301? What"s ya"lls thinking?Eric

Hi Eric, Instead of going to all that work redoing your engine maybe you should look around
for the German 310 cid engine by Neuss, I think it was used in the 706. Neuss also made a 358 cid engine used in some IH tractors and was rated at 125 HP. This engine was used in Hough/IH loaders too. I know it was used in the 1255 and the 1255XL tractors, not sure if they were sold in the US. They had a 1455 and a 1455XL that used
a 402cid engine rated at 145hp too. You would have power to spare. I see sleeve and piston kits available on here for the 310 engine too. Hal

It's going to be fairly hard to find the required parts to install a 310 or 358 in a 560, much less the engine itself. Neuss is not a brand of engines. It is the city in Germany where one of IH's factories was located. The highest rated 358 ever used in farm equipment was the 112 horsepower 1420 combine. The highest rated 358 powered tractor was the 826 at 92.

I Agree with boring it out, If you can find High Altitude, LP pistons for an 806 IH, that makes a 560 gas wake up and take you for a nice ride. Years back, had built a IH 656 like this, used it in the fields, and played a bit too. Engine was strong, but the head is restricted builds heat pretty fast, and burns up the valves. If you are in the market to find a donor engine, look towards finding a truck engine, Im not sure what model trucks they were in, L, something,,,, but these engines, had a sraight valve head, and a very high compression capability. Its like the LP heads to the letter series Farmalls, but there is quite a few of them round. Only catch to this head is to run flat top pistons, it is tight in there. The truck head, had larger ports, You could not port the tractor head, as big as this style cyl head is stock! Cheap, but very potent 100% IH performance. 150 hp 301 30% over rpm? Yes! Heat trouble? not if the carb was tuned right, right fuel grade, good spark, the stock 460-660 distributors are not a good choice, combines are not much better. Not too sure on the truck style distributor. Governor from a IH C-200 series gas engine, not the tractor model, the engine (C-200ci) these wake up a IH 6 tractor engine like night and day in sensitivity. 560 has a pretty big radiator, Mite still be farm field usable, long as you are not over working the tractor frame, VS the engine. Cheap HP,,, Look around, Wont be disapointed. ChadS

You need to get rid of the sleeves to get to 301. Of course, if anything bad ever happens, such as a scored piston, you ruin the block. If you don't want to tear your engine down and pay for all of that expensive machining, just find a C-301. It was most commonly used in the 806 gas and 715 gas combines. It will bolt right into your 560, but you'll need to use your 560 front cover, rear plate, and valve cover.

the bore is the only big difference in a 263 or a 301. I would just take it to a good machinist and have it bored.
