Possible to use a Case 580CK hoe on an H?

I'm interested in using a Case 580CK hoe with my '47 H. I know I'll need to make up a frame to mount it and I have an Eaton 24500 Gear Pump to drive the hydraulics. Does the H have enough horsepower to handle it? Has anyone done this or seen it done?

I'll have a JD #45 loader on the front which, admittedly, is a bit light for the task - 585 lbs. If I could add the needed weight to the front via weights, rock box, block in the loader, would it then be workable or am I in danger of breaking the tractor because of all the weight on both ends? TIA

Dave: I'm not so concerned about the power as I would be the castings of the H. Many an H has been broken in the middle by just farm loaders. I always argued that allowing joints to become loose where castings of the tractor bolt together was the problem. Who knows for sure if they were all loose. I think you will destroy a decent tractor.

What about using truss rods? Allen in NE showed some in a post a while back. Could those be relied upon for this kind of setup?

Dave: You and indeed Allan have more faith than I. That old 580 Construction King tractor was quite a solid hunk of steel. I far as I'm concerned, about the only engineering that ever went into Farmalls for loader use was customer demand.

That same customer demand destroyed the very best draft tractor North America has ever known. Sure a Farmall didn't shift gears very well, but put them on a plow, disk or cultivator and often times you were in the same gear 9 pm as when you started at 5 am, and you hadn't been in any other gears all day. They had the torque to pull you over that hill, through that hard spot and do it all day, day in and day out. Up to the end of letter series they weren't even engineered for the added weight of mounted implements

My point is, there are more economical ways to do this. Heck, build a powered trailer out of a 5 ton truck chassis, mount your hoe on back of that. Five min. uncoupling pto and draw pin, and you can use the H anywhere, and for anything else.

Point taken, I may just do that. I won't go the route of mounting it on the back of the H. Thanks Hugh.

Just trying to help here a bit, I have a CK680 hoe complete with loader and I’m not sure how much smaller the CK580 is. I’m not sure if you will even have enough power to run the hydraulics as the factory engine on mine will pull down a bit when I’m working it hard. Weight is definitely an issue, as even with the heavy industrial loader on it I can pick the front end up when digging with the hoe. That being said, you can put the hoe one the H and get it to function, but…I really wonder if you will be happy with the results though. My 2 cents…

It would probably have the power to run the hyds. but probably not the weight. Unless you have a loader and even then you would need some weights up front or all it would do was stand up on its butt so to speak. The backhoes on those where and are very heavy, I know I have a 580B sitting out in the yard with the reast of my toys
