O.K. guys. I did put in new points, condenser, rotor, cap, and plugs. Still the same. Then I shot some starter fluid in after it died and B-A-M, fired right up. Now if I keep choke fully closed she purrs great. Open choke and she dies. Is there anything I can run, spray, or mix with the gas to clean whatever is plugging probably one of the jets ?? I'm not to good on carbs, especially Zenith. I have never tried them. Are kits available ?? Where ?? Thanks guys for all your help and input.

I agree with everyones suggestions but I have another. This happened to me once. I had the same problem your having. I checked the float on my carb and it was getting stuck or dragging on the bowl. Double check that all is clear and nothing is making it hang.

I go with El Topel, the main is probably clogged.

Before you take apart the carb try this.

Remove the carb, fill the bowl with something like Berryman's carb dip from your local auto parts store. Leave it in the carb no more than 15-20 min, drain and flush with fresh gasoline until no more dip is present.

Or you can dip the whole carb into the can, just don't leave it too long.

The problem with spray carb cleaner is that it dissolves the gum for a few minutes until the cleaner evaporates then you are back with the gum still there.

I got the basic kit for mine at NAPA, they had it in stock. Nothing to rebuilding them. Saturate with carb cleaner,blow out all jets and passages with air. I would make sure you float is good, that does not come in the basic kit. Good luck!! Jerry.

Just tear the carb apart and rebuild it. It won"t be that expensive, and your results will be much longer-lasting.

Those carbs are simple and straight forward unlike automobile carburators. You shouldn't have any problems rebuilding the carb.

Carb kits. Pull the carb off the tractor. There should be a matal tag some place with identification numbers. Take the numbers (no numbers - take the carb) to you local auto parts store. Kits are readily available.

You should get a quart or two of carb cleaner and soak and clean the carb. If you don't want to go the the expense of purchasing the carb cleaner any auto shop will be able to rebuild the carb for you.

Have you checked the fuel flow at the carb? You may have a blockage in the fuel line, sediment bowl, sediment bowl inlet. Check this out before you rebuild the carb.

Did you turn on the gas at the sediment bowl shut off?

Took line free of carb and fuel sediment bowl. Blew thru with compressed air. Cleaned sediment bowl, replaced gasket, and reintalled line. Gas runs freely. Took elbow off with screen filter. Compressed air again. Pulled drain plug on carb, gas ran out. Hooked up fuel line turned on gas and plenty of fuel out bottom of carb. Reinstalled the plug, but still have to use choke to keep running. Circle tag on carb has numbers 389373R91 and 13028A. What Zenith carb kit do I need ??

You may not even need a kit. It sounds like you have a pluged-up main jet since you have gone through everything else. Pull it apart being carefull with the bowl gasket and remove the main jet. It's probably got crud blocking it.Clean everything out and blow out the passages and reassemble. If you need to you can cut out a new bowl gasket. Good luck, Ed
