In my 300U operators manual,it says to use 10W motor oil for the transmission, and to add Torque Amplifier additive if it has TA.What was this additive? I cant imagine what that would be for.I thought the TA was all gears (planetary) and wouldnt need any friction modifier (unless it was for the ramp/roller deal).
Is there any other type of TA to replace the original IH unit? Something more durable?

Your manual was printed before Hytran came out -- just use hytran.

Use IH Hy-Tran instead of the 10W with additive. Hi-Capacity, maybe others, sell a heavy duty T/A. Unless you're pullin' or very abusive to the T/A, the regular version should be good enough.

Hi thran is the only oil to be used in I H tractors with a ta. Because Hy thran Will pick up the water and hold it in suspendtion in the oil. If the fluid is milkie or by losinng the bottom drain plug and water drips out you waited to long to drain and put new hy Tran in. Water will set on the T A and rust and T A will fail. I was told this 24 years ago by a shop boss. I have one SUPER M TA for 24 years. Changed fluid every other year and never replaced the TA. Grain farmer and use it almost every day. The pto is independent and holds two qts. and should be changed also. Even if it is not used.
