Has anybody had tractor rims galvanized? The dip is 840 degrees and I"m concerned that the heat may warp the rim.

Had the four rims of my Super A hot dip galvanized. No noticeable deformation and I am very happy with the result. Could send photo if desired.

Galvanizing can be done with three methods.

Hot Dip
Electroplated
Molten spray

I have used all three methods and I believe that the rims were electroplated. This accounts for the low millage (thickness) and premature rusting. Hot dip usually leaves a crystalin pattern on thin parts. Molten spray leaves a profile suitable for painting. The color is uniform.

RT I don't think is is a matter of how long there in the dip but the change in temperture when put in the dip. We have open top containments dip not much trouble with the short ones but the long one warp at the end that goes in first and the other hardly any so I would say it is the shock.

Most of these old Farmall rims were originally galvanized. If they just dip them, then I'm thinking they aren't in the dip long enough for them to get up to that temperature.
