Hello everybody,

I am a long time farmall collector but I am in need of a tractor to cut my 3.5 acre lawn. I am looking at a Case IH model 235 with a loader. It is a diesel and in real nice condition. The hour meter reads 348 and it looks like 348. They are asking 7000.00. Is this a fair price?

Please help - feedback and all coments welcome

While the price may be in line for a CIH 235, it seems to me to be an over-kill for the acerage you claim. If you want to stick to an IH product, I agree with Hugh MadKay that there are some decent Cubs, or Super A, 130, or 140"s out there for much less than the $7,000 being asked for the 235. Any of these models would serve you well for nearly anything you would consider doing an a 3,5 acre plot, from gardening to show removal. These models are also equipped with a well engineered hydraulic system which has been very reliable through the last 50+ years.

Hugh, Frozen fingers. not only did I butcher your name, but when I realized and tried to correct it, I inadvertantly sent the same danged butchered up version again. Wasnt gonna be a "third time is the charm" version. Maybe I need to open up that bottle of Screech de Terre nueve that I"ve been hoarding for the last 5 years, and limber up a bit, eh?

I assume this is 4wd. Your Farmall does not have a loader so you can at least say that. I had a friend with one and it was nice, ran well. They are small, not a lot of balls but aside from mowing, you will have the loader for other chores, snow, wood, etc. I really think these little tractors hold their value for the 5 acre farmer. Sometimes what something is worth is less that what the market brings. BUY IT and mow.

Well my Farmall H has a loader. Everyone tells me to sell it. I want to keep it to do a little work from time to time.

Just buy yourself a good Cub with a Woods or Danco mower deck. If the Cub is in good running condition and is properly maintained it will be more than adequate to mow 3.5 acres of lawn.

On the plus side, it is a Farmall, and it is one heck of a lot of fun.

I have a cub cadet 129 now with a 44" mower on it. I am just afraid it will bee too small or take too much time to mow the grass. As for a Woods belly mower on my Farmall A, - I was priced out 2050.00 for a new one and riggings. I thought it might just be better to buy another machine.

John: Most of those little oriental diesels IH or CaseIH put out after 1980 weren't much. I don't know what it is like today, but in the late 80s early 90s, was nothing to wait 3-4 months for parts. I know one guy bought a new 274 for work on his vegetable farm, That 274 has been gone for 15 years and he now uses a Super A. Along with scarce parts these little diesels were not durable either.

I personally would give more money for a good Super A, 100, 130, 140, Cub or Cub lowboy with a good IH or Woods belly mower. Rusty said it all.

If you can tell me what year it is, I can give you a book price on the value of it. Is it a 235 or 235H. They were made from 1987-1990. According to my book, that is a little high, but the book only is a guideline. it shows a value of $1500.00-$2115.00 with no attchments. then add a loader and mower, and this is with normal hours.

Why not just use one of the Farmalls you already have and equip it with a belly mower?

i have no clue as to what comparable new ones sell for but as a rule of thumb, you can't pay too much for nice ones.
