This part was given with my purchase of my 300U.The guy said it goes with the tractor.I cannot see what this would be.It has a stylized "PP" cast into the housing, and the number 619071.It looks to have been painted red in the beginning, and then yellow. The number doesnt match an IH number.Any idea?

Is it a cylinder for the power steering? Look on the steering gear for a matching part. (Or two.)

You are correct. It has a piston and ring inside. Perhaps the tractor was converted back to manual steering, or the seller has his 300's mixed up. Paul, get the Blue Ribbon Service manual GSS 1065, which covers manual and power steering for the 300U from Binder Books. My 460U has the same thing, but the part numbers are different.

I have the I&T manual, and the PS unit on a 300U has a cylinder similar to this one, however I dont see the toothed end in the exploded diagrams.

My guess would be that it is in the 300U parts book, I don't know for sure that your part actually fits a 300, but the manual I have is for a 300U, thus the 460U is similar. The toothed part is called the piston rod and rack assembly, I believe the rack engages some teeth on a shaft in the steering box at the bottom of the steering column. The IT manual for the 460 does show the rack.

Maybe its for a later model than a 300/350U.

Very possible, it's not a 460 number. You sure your IT manual doesn't show that rack, would be the 8th item down from the cylinder in the exploded view if the parts are similar to the 460U. Otherwise, I don't have a clue.

I found it in the 300/350U parts manual. With rack.Part #366151R91.Not the number thats on it,but I'm sure it was farmed out to "PP"??
Strange, they probably thought that the cylinder could convert a manual box to power.

Some parts are farmed out -- notably the hydraulic pumps, air cleaners, etc, thus the different numbers. Another half dozen parts or so and you could convert it, probably not worth the effort or expense.
